Not different enough from Fronx
The Taisor’s identity comes through its redesigned front end, blending Toyota’s family traits like Hyryder-like DRLs and a Crysta-style grille. The coupe-like stance and connected tail-lamps mirror the Fronx, though the outer and inner tail-light elements don’t quite match. It also gets unique alloy designs.
9.0
Inside, it's identical to the Fronx – same design, layout, and materials. Still, it feels premium with dual-tone colours and solid ergonomics. The rear seat is spacious and comfortable, featuring three adjustable headrests and three-point seatbelts. However, like Maruti, no rear load sensors mean constant seatbelt warnings.
8.0
Two engines are available – a 1.2-litre NA petrol (manual & AMT) and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (manual & 6-speed auto). The turbo is smooth, responsive, and rev-happy, doing 0-100kph in 11.86s. The auto gearbox is smooth but not quick, though it allows full manual control with paddle shifters. Interestingly, 45% of Taisor buyers opt for the turbo variant, compared to just 10% for the Fronx.
8.0
The turbo's ARAI figure is 21.18kpl, but real-world mileage is 10.9kpl (city) and 16.7kpl (highway). The 1.2 NA variant is expected to return 13.5–20kpl (manual) and around 13–18.8kpl (AMT), similar to the Fronx.
8.0
Ride quality at low speeds feels firm, but stability improves at higher speeds. Light steering and a tight turning radius make it city-friendly, while its handling remains engaging despite average feedback.
8.0
Features like a heads-up display, wireless charging, 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and 360-degree camera are included, though only the turbo variants get side/curtain airbags. ESP, hill-start assist, and ABS with EBD are standard.
7.0
The Taisor builds on the Fronx’s strengths – space, features, and driving dynamics – while wearing a more upmarket Toyota badge. Whether you choose it or the Fronx depends on brand preference and service accessibility, but either way, it’s a well-rounded compact crossover.

•4dHi team Autocar, at the outset, I am an ardent follower of the Autocar podcast, just love to hear from Hormazd, Sergius and Ketan. Thank you for creating great content. Thank you for upskilling my auto instincts. I have a query. I currently own a Basalt AT Max, 2 years old, with 10K km on the odometer, which I use for my office commute (750-800 km per month). I am considering replacing it. What would be good options in the Rs 15-17 lakh budget? Also, should I replace it now, considering the resale value will keep dropping?

Autocar India
Firstly, thanks for your appreciation. Coming to your query, for a mostly city office run of about 750-800 km a month and a Rs. 15-17 lakh cap, we would lean toward the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi AT. It fits your use because the 6-speed automatic is smooth in stop-and-go traffic, the tall driving position makes city driving less tiring, and ownership is easy with a wide service network. Coming from a two-year-old car with only 10,000 km, this will feel like a step up in comfort and ease without jumping to a much bigger, heavier car that you don’t really need for city duty. Two quick reasons it suits you: your monthly use is not high, so a simple petrol automatic makes sense and keeps costs predictable, and the Brezza’s calm, easy nature in traffic is exactly what reduces daily stress on a commute. It also holds value well among compact SUVs which helps when you do sell later.Trade-offs to note are that it isn’t the quickest when you want a fast overtake, and the cabin, while solid, doesn’t feel fancy like some rivals. If you prefer something a bit smaller and even lighter to drive, look at the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor 1.0 turbo with the automatic. It uses a smooth automatic gearbox, is easy to park, and should fit your budget in mid to high-trim models in most cities. If you want a sharper drive and more features, the Kia Sonet 1.0 DCT mid variant is worth a look, though its dual-clutch automatic transmission can feel a bit jerky at very low speeds. On the bigger question: with just 2 years and 10,000 km, you’re in the sweet spot to keep your current car. The biggest drop in value happens early, and you’ve already taken most of it. From here, the fall is slower. Unless you want a clear upgrade in comfort, safety features or size right now, holding on for another 2-3 years makes better money sense.

•2wI am planning to buy an automatic car under ₹10 lakh. Currently, I own a 2012 Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol (ZXI) and a 2012 Honda Civic petrol. I am confused between the new Renault Duster and the Maruti Suzuki options in this segment. Could you suggest the most suitable car based on my requirements?

Autocar India
Unfortunately, the automatic variants of the Renault Duster and Maruti Suzuki Brezza/Victoris don't fall within your Rs 10 lakh budget. Since you're looking for an SUV-like automatic option, you could consider Maruti Fronx or Toyota Taisor 1.2 petrol-AMT. These are crossover-esque versions of the Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza hatchbacks, which are spacious, efficient and will be a good replacement for your Swift. If you're open to hatchbacks, the Hyundai i20 IVT is also a great option.

•3wI have a budget of ₹11 lakh and am looking to buy a car for a family of four, including a child. I have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi (non-smart hybrid), Hyundai Venue SX (O), Hyundai Exter automatic, and am also considering options like the Nissan Magnite or Tata Punch. My priorities include long-term ownership (10-15 years), a reliable engine with low maintenance and running costs, good safety, and fuel efficiency in Bangalore traffic as well as on long drives, including ghat sections. I also want good rear-seat comfort over bad roads and highways, strong pulling power with a full load on slight inclines, essential features, a good interior, and a quality music system. Which option would you recommend based on these requirements?

Autocar India
For your requirements of a 5-member family, long-term ownership, low maintenance and good all-round ability, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi manual is the best fit among your shortlist. It offers the most space here, especially at the rear, which makes it more comfortable for three passengers. The suspension handles bad roads and potholes well, and the overall ride is well-suited for both city use and highway trips, including ghat sections. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is simple, proven and reliable, which is important if you are planning to keep the car for 10-15 years. It also pulls well with a full load on slight inclines, which matches your requirement. Maruti’s wide service network and lower maintenance costs further add to long-term peace of mind. The main compromise is that the VXi variant misses out on some features, including a better music system, and compared to smaller engines, fuel efficiency in heavy city traffic may not be the best, though it remains reasonable overall. The Hyundai Venue and Hyundai Exter are easy to drive, but both feel smaller inside and are not as strong on hills with a full load due to their smaller 1.2-litre engines. You can also look at the Maruti Suzuki Fronx or Toyota Taisor turbo manual as options. The 1.0-litre turbo engine is more punchy than the Brezza’s engine and, despite being a small 3-cylinder unit, it has very little turbo lag and is fairly refined. Both cars are spacious, have good ride quality and offer a bigger boot than the Brezza. The only downside is that while the rear seat is spacious, it does not feel as wide as the Brezza. So overall, for a balance of space, comfort, reliability and long-term ownership, the Brezza VXi is the most sensible choice.

•4wMy budget is around ₹10.5 lakh (± ₹50,000). My monthly running is approximately 400 km, and I prefer a petrol car with a city mileage of around 11-14 km/l. I have analysed the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and Toyota Taisor. I am also expecting good resale value. Please suggest the best option.

Autocar India
Of your shortlisted cars, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (or its equivalent, the Toyota Taisor) makes the most sense. In your budget of Rs 10-11 lakh, you get a choice of a 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. While the 1.2 is more than sufficient, we would recommend the Turbo for its additional pep, with little penalty to mileage and running costs. Unless driven with an overly heavy foot, it should easily meet your target of 11-14kpl. Maruti vehicles are also great when it comes to resale value, with some of the best long-term residual values on the market. The next best bet is the Hyundai Venue, which is more spacious and comfortable, but it won't be as good as the Maruti when it comes to mileage or resale value.

•4wI want to purchase a car for travelling to my hometown, which would be around 650km plus journey, 2-3 times a year. Looking for a comfortable rear seat where my mother can rest during the journey. Budget 8-10lakh, max. I am considering the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. Please advise, thank you.

Autocar India
For your requirement of comfortable long-distance travel with a focus on rear seat comfort, we would suggest going for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor in the S Plus variant. The biggest advantage of the Taisor is its slightly higher stance as compared to similarly sized hatchbacks, which makes getting in and out easier, especially for elderly passengers. This becomes very important on long journeys with multiple stops. It also offers a comfortable rear seat with good support, which will help your mother stay relaxed over a 600+ km drive. In terms of ride quality, the Taisor is actually quite well sorted. It is equipped with a comfortable suspension setup that handles bad roads and undulations well, and feels stable and composed on highways, making it suitable for long-distance travel. This balance works well for your kind of usage, where you will be covering long distances but also encounter varying road conditions.

•4wI am planning to buy a new car and am currently waiting for the new Honda WR-V to be launched. Could you please advise on its expected launch timeline? Also, if there are any good alternatives to the WR-V that meet my requirements, kindly suggest them. My key requirements are: A responsive automatic gearbox Comfortable seats and good ride quality for long drives Good ground clearance Decent mileage

Autocar India
Honda has no plans to launch the WR-V in India, at least not in its current avatar. If a new sub-four-metre SUV is launched, it won't be before 2029, with several other products planned before then, such as the 0 Alpha EV, a new Honda City, a new 7-seat SUV and a new Elevate, as well as some CBUs.Until then, check out the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (or its sibling, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor), specifically with the 1.0 Boosterjet turbo petrol engine and 6-speed AT gearbox. This powertrain delivers, at once, performance, smoothness and efficiency, giving the best of all worlds. The Fronx is a sharp-looking compact crossover that's surprisingly practical and well equipped. It's got good ground clearance and a comfortable ride, and space is more than enough too. Plus, being a Maruti, running costs are low, and reliability is rock solid.

•4wHello, I am planning to purchase an automatic car purely for city use, with a daily running of roughly 20 km. I currently own a Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT, which is now 10 years old, and that is the primary reason for this upgrade. My priorities are easy ingress and egress for seniors, comfort, and strong AC performance. My budget is around ₹10 lakh, which can stretch up to ₹12 lakh. I am considering the Taisor S Plus AMT, Kylaq Signature AT, Sonet HTK(O) DCT, XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT, and Venue HX5 DCT. Could you please advise which would be the best choice for my requirements?

Autocar India
Among your choices, the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT is a good fit for your needs. For 20km/day city use, the torque-converter automatic is smoother than the AMT in the Taisor and the DCTs in the Venue and Sonet. It is also more spacious than the Skoda Kylaq, and its tall stance makes it easier to get in and out of than the Taisor. The ride is smooth over speed breakers and potholes, and the AC cools quickly in summer. Before you make your final decision, visit the dealerships along with the seniors in your family to see which one they find most comfortable.

•6wWithin a budget of around ₹12 lakh (could extend some), I want to buy a petrol manual car which is fun to drive, reliable and will not be so heavy on my pocket for fueling and maintenance. My monthly usage is around 400km, mostly city and occasional road trips. Which car will you suggest?

Autocar India
You can consider the Maruti Suzuki Fronx or the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor in their top turbo petrol manual variants. The engine, despite being turbocharged, has hardly any turbo lag and offers good punch. It also comes with a light clutch and a slick gearbox, which makes it easy to drive in the city. Even on an open road or around a ghat section, both these cars are surprisingly fun to drive, and over bad roads, the suspension delivers a comfortable ride as well. For a turbo petrol engine, efficiency is also quite impressive. Overall, there is actually not much to fault here.If you want something that feels a bit more premium, you can look at the Skoda Kylaq, the Signature+ MT variant. The Kylaq is a fun car to drive, but the clutch is heavier, and you will feel more turbo lag. It will also not be as efficient as the Fronx turbo petrol, and the peace of mind ownership experience may not be as strong.

•7wMy daily driving is around 20 km in a small city and nearby villages, and my budget is Rs 12-14 lakh. I prefer a car with a powerful engine. Which car would you recommend?

Autocar India
There are a couple of options that you can consider. We've listed the highlights for each.1) Skoda Kylaq: Punchy engine, fun handling. Rear seat space is tight, though2) Mahindra XUV 3XO petrol: Strong engine, good ride comfort. Boot space is limited3) Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo/ Toyota Taisor Turbo: Strong engine. Reliability and hassle-free ownership experience 4) Citroen C3: Strong engine. Feels a bit basic, and the service network isn't very large.

•7wI am looking to buy a petrol automatic car under ₹12 lakh, primarily for city driving. My main priorities are good mileage, ease of driving, and overall affordability. Could you please suggest the best options available in this budget?

Autocar India
While there are quite a few petrol automatic options within your Rs 12 lakh budget, the most fuel-efficient options include the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT (and its twin the Toyota Glanza), Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT, Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT, Maruti Suzuki Fronx AMT (and its twin the Toyota Taisor). All feature AMT gearbox options. While AMTs aren't the most sophisticated or smoothest type of automatic transmission, they are fine for average city driving. What sets AMTs apart from other automatics is real-world fuel economy, which is on par and sometimes even better than a comparable manual's. Of the above options, we'd choose between the Baleno, Glanza, Fronx and Taisor. Their larger 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine makes them feel a bit zippier than the Swift and Dzire that use 1.2-litre three-cylinder units.
