TVS Motor Company today launched the new Jupiter 125 at a starting price of Rs 73,400. The variants on offer are a drum brake-equipped steel wheel version, drum brakes and alloy wheels variant and a front disc brake-equipped variant with alloy wheels.

TVS Jupiter 125: design and features
The scooter features a simple yet elegant design, with prominent crease lines on the front apron and side panels. A set of chrome embellishments and LED DRLs give the face a striking appearance and so does the new LED headlamp. The tail section, too, is quite neatly integrated with the rest of the scooter.
In terms of features, the scooter has a start-stop system, side stand engine cut-off and a USB charging socket in the top model. The instrument panel is a part-analogue, part-digital affair with the latter displaying a clock, real-time fuel consumption, average fuel consumption and fuel level.
TVS Jupiter 125: ergonomics
TVS says that it paid special attention towards optimising space utilisation. The seat, for instance, is longer than the Jupiter 110 by 65mm, liberating more room for both the rider and pillion. The seat height itself is set at an accessible 765mm.
Underseat storage is a segment-best 32 litres and this was achieved by placing the 5-litre fuel tank in the floorboard of the scooter. The fuel filler cap is conveniently placed at the front, behind the apron and not under the seat as is the case with other scooters in the segment.
TVS Jupiter 125: engine
TVS has developed a brand new 124.8cc engine for this scooter. It makes 8.3hp at 6,000rpm and 10.5Nm at 4,500rpm. TVS says that the engine has been tuned for strong low and mid-range performance and responsiveness. The claimed fuel efficiency, meanwhile, is higher than that of the competition and we shall verify this after testing the scooter.
TVS Jupiter 125: chassis
The chassis is all-new, suspended by a telescopic fork and gas-charged single-shock at the rear, the latter being a segment-first feature. Braking duties are taken care of by a 220mm front disc and a 130mm drum at the rear. The lower variants have drum brakes at both ends.
TVS Jupiter 125: price, colours and competition
The base Jupiter is priced at Rs 73,400, the alloy wheel drum brake version costs Rs 76,800.The top variant will set you back by Rs 81,300. It goes up against the Honda Activa 125 (starting at Rs 72,637), Yamaha Fascino 125 (starting at Rs 72,030) and Suzuki Access 125 (starting at Rs 73,400).
The Jupiter 125 is available in four colours- Dawn Orange, Indiblue, Pristine White and Titanium Grey.
