Honda has trademarked the X-ADV name tag in India. It’s the model name for a unique Honda vehicle sold in overseas markets that’s a crossover between a maxi-scooter and an adventure bike.

This ‘adventure scooter’ is powered by a 745cc parallel-twin engine that’s borrowed from the NC750X adventure tourer, mated to a 6-speed semi-automatic dual-clutch transmission. Output figures stand at 59hp and 69Nm, and the X-ADV has no clutch lever or gear shifter. The control scheme for the transmission is quite similar to the Africa Twin or the Gold Wing, where shuffling through the gearbox can be left to the scooter to handle, or manual control can be taken using buttons on the handlebars.

Helping its off-road credentials are 17-inch/15-inch wire-spoke wheels wrapped in block-pattern tyres, and about 150mm of suspension travel at each end. It’s also quite a feature-rich scooter, coming with keyless ignition, a Bluetooth-equipped 5.0-inch TFT display, five riding modes and even three modes for the DCT.

So, is this peculiar little adventure scooter coming to India? Well, despite the trademark filing, it seems quite unlikely that Honda would bring such an unconventional product to the Indian market, especially when far more likely arrivals are yet to hit our shores. Besides, Honda has a history of trademarking overseas models in India that it doesn’t plan to sell here – the most recent example is the CRF300L. But hey, never say never. Who would’ve thought the BMW C 400 GT would ever be on sale in India?
