A week ago we reported that Kawasaki would launch the KLX 230 S dual sport motorcycle in India. Now, the company has begun teasing the launch of an upcoming motorcycle on its social media on October 17.

    1. KLX 230 is a focused off-roader
    2. Could be priced around the Rs 2 lakh mark

While the social media teasers don’t reveal the bike or its name, they have an off-road theme to the images which suggests that the bike in question is the new KLX.

The Kawasaki KLX 230 is a simple dual sport motorcycle and the variant being launched in India is the friendlier S, which comes with reduced suspension travel and a lower seat height. Even so, the bike boasts 239mm of ground clearance and 198mm/220mm of front and rear suspension travel. Seat height is 843mm, but the bike will have a very slim off-road style seat. The KLX 230 S weighs in at 133kg in the USA, but that number is bound to go up with the addition of emissions compliance equipment, as well as ABS.

Power comes from an air-cooled 2-valve single-cylinder engine that displaces 233cc. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and is expected to make around 17-20hp. This will make the KLX a direct rival to the Hero Xpulse 200, and we expect the price to be around Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom, India), or even lower.
