A new spy image of the upcoming Royal Enfield Classic 500 Scrambler, spotted testing in India, completely reveals what the new bike will look like for the first time. This bike appears to be based on the existing Classic 500 and should feature minor mechanical and cosmetic changes to differentiate it.

At first glance, the Scrambler looks similar to the motorcycle it is based on. It has the same tank, fork, side panels and stance as the Classic. Look little closer and you will notice the new front and rear fenders are both shorter and narrower, which suits a scrambler more. The bike also sports a taller handlebar that features a cross brace similar to the one on the Interceptor 650. Speaking of the Interceptor, the tail-light and turn indicators also appear to be the same units seen on the new 650 twins.

Royal Enfield has also equipped the motorcycle with more chunky off-road oriented tyres. Replacing the rear seat on this variant of the Royal Enfield, is what appears to be a luggage rack. However, we assume it can also be used as a mount for the pillion seat. Keeping with the scrambler theme, the bike also features an upswept exhaust muffler. Other than these changes, the motorcycle looks identical to the Classic 500.

The new motorcycle uses front and rear disc brakes and will most likely come with dual-channel ABS as standard. Whether the suspension has been tuned for this purpose, or if it offers longer travel, remains to be seen.

We believe this variant of the Classic will be powered by the same 499cc, single-cylinder motor. This air-cooled engine delivers 27.6hp at 5,250rpm and 41.3Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. As for pricing, the standard ABS-equipped Classic 500 starts from Rs 1.99 lakh and goes up to 2.10 lakh for the chrome model (ex-showroom, Mumbai). If and when it does launch, the Classic 500 Scrambler could be priced slightly higher than that.
