You don’t see many of them in the big city, but the XL 100 moped is a vital part of the TVS line-up. It accounts for big sales numbers for the brand every month (the counter on the TVS XL website says 30 bikes were sold in the few minutes it took to write this article) and now there’s a new version.

This model comes shortly after TVS updated the XL to BS-iV spec and gave it an LED DRL. Now, the range-topping version of the XL 100 features an electric start system for the first time and it also gets a USB charging outlet that resides under the instrument cluster. The i-Touch Start model, as the new variant is called, will also feature a new ‘mineral purple’ colour.

The XL 100 continues with the same 99.7cc 4-stroke engine that produces a humble 4.3hp and 6.5Nm. But the XL weighs just 80kg and is loved for its ability to carry impressively heavy loads.

The XL 100 i-Touch Start has been launched at Rs 36,109 ex-showroom. That puts it Rs 2,425 above the XL Heavy Duty while the XL 100 Comfort and standard XL 100 are both priced at Rs 32,934.

This new variant has been launched in a phased manner in some northern states, starting with Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
