Hyundai’s first compact SUV in India – the Venue – has crossed the 3 lakh-unit sales milestone in our market. This feat comes three years after the compact SUV’s India launch in May 2019. Positioned under the popular Creta SUV in Hyundai's line-up here, the Venue was also the first car in India to offer connected car technology.

  • Hyundai Venue petrol more popular than diesel
  • Was the third bestselling compact SUV in FY2022
  • Facelift to launch in mid-June

The Venue was launched in the Indian market on May 21, 2019, with an introductory price of Rs 6.5 lakh going up to Rs 11.11 lakh. Within six months of the compact SUV’s launch, Hyundai crossed the sales milestone of 50,000 units. In the first year of its launch, the carmaker sold over 97,000 units of the compact SUV. In December 2021, within 30 months of its launch, the Venue crossed the 2,50,000-unit sales milestone.

Hyundai sold over 2,50,000 SUVs in 2021 and the Venue accounted for over 42 percent of this tally, with a total of 1,08,000 units sold. In FY2022, the carmaker sold 1,05,091 units of the Venue, making it the third bestselling compact SUV after the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. It accounted for a market share of 16.9 percent in its segment.

Hyundai Venue petrol, Bluelink technology in demand

As per our sister publication Autocar Professional’s statistics, out of the 1,05,091 units of the Venue sold in FY2022, around 80,000 were petrol. This shows a huge demand for the petrol-powered versions of the compact SUV. Currently, Hyundai sells the Venue with two petrol and one diesel engine option. These include an 83hp, 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol motor; a 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine; and a 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine. Coming to gearbox options, the Venue is offered with a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), and a 7-speed DCT, depending on the engine.

Hyundai had positioned the Venue as India’s first car with connected car technology, featuring Advanced Bluelink technology with 33 connected car features. As per Autocar Pro, 18 percent of all Venue buyers have opted for this technology so far, making it a hit among the customers.

Hyundai Venue rivals and upcoming facelift

After three years of its launch, Hyundai is readying a mid-cycle facelift of the Venue for launch in mid-June. The facelifted model was recently caught testing, and will feature refreshed exterior design inspired by bigger Hyundai SUVs like the new Tucson and the recently updated Palisade that is sold overseas. It is likely that Hyundai will add more features like a full-digital instrument cluster on the inside.

The facelifted Venue will also get a sportier N Line variant, which was even spotted testing earlier in India.

Currently, the Venue takes on the hotly contested compact SUV segment that includes players like the Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, among others. The facelifted Venue will also continue to rival these models, as well as the all-new Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza that will launch around the same time.
