Tata has launched the much awaited Altroz with prices starting from Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). The carmaker’s first model on the ALFA platform, the Altroz enters the hotly contested premium hatchback segment and rivals the Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza and the segment-bestseller, the Maruti Baleno.
Tata is offering the Altroz in five trim levels – XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ(O). Interestingly, alongside the standard five trims, Tata is also offering variant specific customisation packs for the XE, XM, XT and XZ allowing owners the option to kit out their cars with certain features from higher variants. The options packs – Rythm, Style, Luxe and Urban – costs up to Rs 39,000 over the standard variants.

Under the hood, the Altroz gets the choice of two BS6-compliant engine options – a 86hp/113Nm 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 90hp/200Nm 1.5-litre diesel. Both engines are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Tata has confirmed that a dual-clutch automatic gearbox is in the works and will be introduced in the future.
