Tata Motors will launch the facelifted Safari around October this year and new spy images reveal features and upgrades that will make it to the new model.

  1. Gets 2-spoke steering wheel from Tata Curvv concept
  2. Could get an additional screen in the centre console for HVAC
  3. Powertrains likely to remain unchanged

As seen in these spy shots, the Safari facelift will get a refreshed interior, including a new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel as seen on the Curvv concept and the recently spied Tata Nexon facelift that's due to launch this year. Like the Nexon facelift, the Safari could also get paddleshifters and an illuminated logo on the steering.

A feature that's caught our attention, in particular, is what appears to be a second screen on the centre console. The area has been camouflaged on the test mule, and, as visible from these leaked patent designs, it could be touch controls for the HVAC. Other interior feature changes visible include an upgraded gear lever and an electronic parking brake.

Like with the Red Dark Edition, the facelift of the Safari will most likely be equipped with ADAS and other safety systems too.

On the outside, the Tata Safari will get cosmetic changes, and, as we've reported previously, gets a reworked headlight design and tail-lamps that are connected via an LED bar. The Safari facelift will also get a reworked alloy wheel design.

Tata Safari facelift powertrain

The Safari is expected to continue with 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, and we also expect the gearbox options to remain unchanged – a 6-speed manual or an automatic that's sourced from Hyundai. Tata's new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which is currently under development could join the line-up at a later stage.

Tata Safari facelift rivals

The Tata Safari rivals the Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector Plus. In our comparison test between the Safari and XUV700, we found that though the Safari was a good SUV, the XUV700 offered more value for money with considerably more features. Mahindra also sells more units of the XUV700 every month; however, with updated features and styling, Tata could take the fight to Mahindra's doorstep.

Tata Safari facelift launch and price

Tata is expected to begin production of the Safari facelift in September. The Safari line-up currently starts at Rs 15.64 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.01 lakh, but expect the facelift's prices to be slightly higher with the additional features.
