American electric car maker Tesla is all set to launch its first electric car in India. The popular EV brand seems to be readying Hindi language support for its infotainment which was recently discovered. The said update with the Hindi language support is not officially released yet.

  • Tesla Model 3 to be its first model for India
  • Hindi language support could be part of the next Tesla UI update
  • Model 3 could be priced at around Rs 60 lakh in India

Tesla infotainment latest UI update – what is it?

A Twitter user @greentheonly, who works on tweaking the Tesla UI, on a periodic study of the car’s code, discovered that the company was going to add five new languages to their infotainment system, and Hindi is one of them. The current version of the Tesla UI - 2021.12.25.6 - does not feature Hindi support and this may only be introduced with the next update.

The other languages that are a part of this update include Russian, Greek, Croatian and Finnish. Green also clarified that Croatian and Finnish are on the changelog, but all five are present, and even shared photos for evidence. The fact that Tesla has added these new languages, particularly Hindi, even before it has officially set foot in India, shows that the company is committed to offer customers a unique experience with its infotainment software.

Tesla is already present in the markets of Greece, Croatia and Finland, so the addition of these languages is only logical. Given the company’s plans for India, the addition of Hindi is understandable and surely welcoming. However, Tesla currently has no presence in Russia and the inclusion of Russian was largely a surprise. This only suggests that Tesla is likely to soon open doors in Russia, which has also been previously hinted by CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla India launch plans

Earlier this year in January, Tesla officially registered its office in Bengaluru as Tesla India Motors and EnergyPvt Ltd. The company has recently been on a recruitment drive to build up its India team before it officially launches its first model in India. Tesla is expected to kick off its India innings by importing its cars as CBU with the Model 3 expected to be the first to arrive on our shores.

In fact, the Tesla Model 3 has been spied testing on our roads on multiple occasions. The Model 3 is available in both single-motor and dual-motor setups overseas, although it remains to be seen which version of the Model 3 Tesla offers in India. While it is likely to be Tesla’s most accessible model for buyers in India, it will still be far from being affordable. Expect the Tesla Model 3 to be priced around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Further down the line, Tesla will be setting up a manufacturing facility in India. While several states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka have offered Tesla to setup manufacturing base in their respective states, it remains to be seen who is finally able to woo the American automaker. Tesla is also expected to bring its halo products - Model S and Model X – to our shores at a later point of time.
