    Maruti Wagon R gets 6 airbags as standard

    After the Celerio and Alto K10, Maruti has silently updated its best-selling model - the Wagon R - with six airbags across the range in 2025. Previously, the Maruti Wagon R got only two front airbags as standard. Other updates include three-point seatbelts and E20 fuel compatibility.

    2025 Maruti Wagon R features

    Safety

    Wagon R is built on the Suzuki Heartect platformWagon R is built on Suzuki's Heartect platform.

    As a part of its MY2025 update, the Maruti hatchback also gets a new three-point rear centre seatbelt (lap type before). All Wagon R variants continue to be offered with ABS with EBD, ESP, central locking and rear parking sensors.

    Maruti has not made any changes to the Wagon R’s exterior and cabin. Some of the features include electrically-operated ORVMs, 14-inch alloy wheels, dual-tone dashboard, steering-mounted audio controls and 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    2025 Maruti Wagon R engine options

    1-litre and 1.2-litre engines, former gets CNG option 

    The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is sold with two petrol engine options - 1-litre, three-cylinder (produces 68.5hp, 91.1Nm) and 1.2-litre, four-cylinder (generates 90.95hp, 113.7Nm) - which are E20 fuel compliant. Depending on the variant, they can be paired with a manual gearbox or an AMT. The smaller 1-litre engine also get a CNG option, though it's offered solely with the manual transmission. Maruti has yet to disclose the updated mileage figures; the fuel-efficiency numbers of the MY2024 model are mentioned below for reference.

    E20 compatibility 

    The E20 fuel consists of 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol. Minor power and torque improvements from these engines have been reported by the carmaker, which may be attributed to ethanol’s higher octane than petrol. Engine knocking is also reduced.
