MG Motor India is all set to launch a new EV in India based on the Wuling Cloud EV that's sold overseas by parent group SAIC. We can now confirm that the CUV will be christened the ‘Windsor EV’ here.

    1. Windsor EV to be positioned below ZS EV
    2. To rival Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400
    3. Expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh

MG’s latest teaser asks viewers to decipher the name of the upcoming EV with the help of jumbled letters. However, the name and logo trademarks filed by the manufacturer a few months ago confirm that it will indeed be called the Windsor EV. MG will officially reveal the name of the car on August 5.

    MG Windsor EV battery, range

The Windsor EV (Wuling Cloud EV) gets two battery pack options overseas: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh, with 360km and 460km range, respectively. It’s powered by a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 134hp, but it's yet to be confirmed which version will be made available here.

MG Windsor EV expected price, rivals

While the Windsor EV has the shape and stance of an MPV, it accommodates only five passengers across two rows, which essentially makes it a large hatchback. Dubbed a ‘CUV’, the Windsor EV is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh. At this price point, it will sit below the ZS EV in MG’s portfolio, and compete with the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400.
