A few days ago, we reported that Toyota dealers across the country have stopped accepting bookings for the Innova Crysta diesel. A handful of dealers we spoke to had no clarity on the situation and were just asked to stop accepting bookings for the said variant by the carmaker. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has finally issued a statement regarding the same.

    • Innova Crysta diesel bookings temporarily on hold
    • Customers who have already booked a diesel likely to get delivery
    • Innova Crysta petrol bookings currently open

TKM, in their official statement, said:“Due to very high demand pattern, which has resulted in an increased waiting period for the diesel variant of Innova Crysta, TKM has decided to temporarily stop taking orders for the diesel variant. As a customer centric company, we are making efforts to supply the vehicles to customers who have already made bookings with our dealers. However, we will continue to take orders for the Petrol variant of Innova Crysta.”

The Innova Crysta diesel was offered with a 150hp, 2.4-litre engine mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol variant comes with a 166hp, 2.7-litre unit paired with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.

The Innova Hycross, an all-new monocoque MPV that will see a global debut this year, will be an additional model to the Innova Crysta, according to sources. This new MPV will come only with a petrol-hybrid engine option, like the Toyota Hyryder midsize SUV, and not get a diesel engine option.

There is no guarantee that the same ladder frame diesel would comeback.
