Jeep’s large all-electric SUV, the Wagoneer S, is expected to get a hardcore Trailhawk version in international markets. Revealed as a near-production concept, the Wagoneer S Trailhawk gets a number of changes to make it more capable off-road than the standard EV.

    1. Trailhawk likely to share 100.6kWh battery, 600hp drivetrain with Wagoneer S
    2. Suspension raised by 2 inches, gets new 31.5-inch all-terrain tyres
    3. Like other Trailhawks, it also gets a Rock drive mode as well

Naturally, the Trailhawk version shares its STLA large underpinnings with the standard Wagoneer S, and while Jeep has not officially revealed the battery details and other technical specifications, the brand says this SUV has “all the capability of the new production vehicle.” We expect the same 100.5-kWh battery pack and dual-motor, 600hp set-up.

Along with changes to the bumpers, which sees the addition of tow hooks, the grille gets a refresh and the lower exposed surfaces now get an anti-scratch cladding to deter damage during off-roading. Jeep also has lifted the suspension by 2 inches, equipped the SUV with large 31.5-inch all-terrain tyres, and included functional air vents that relieve high-pressure zones in the wheel wells during high speeds.

As is the case with Trailhawk models, the Wagoneer S Trailhawk gets a Rock drive mode in addition to the Auto, Sand, Snow, Eco, and Sport modes seen on the standard EV. Jeep has also added a driver-selectable electronic locking rear axle. All the changes, especially those that affect weight, will see the Trailhawk’s range reduce compared to the Wagoneer’s claimed figure of over 480km.

The insides are different from the standard EV as well – the Trailhawk concept sports a new octagon-shaped steering wheel, a red-coloured switch panel in the centre console for the drive mode, diff lock rockers, and a passenger grab handle. While Jeep calls it a concept, the model does look almost production ready, and Jeep is likely to introduce it at a later date in international markets.

    Jeep India EV plans

While the American brand is not expected to bring the Wagoneer S or the Trailhawk version to India, Jeep is working on bringing the next-generation Compass to the market by 2026. Along with turbo-petrol and diesel powertrains, the new-gen Compass will also get an all-electric version. Jeep’s sister brand Citroen is also expected to use the STLA Medium platform, which will be used by the new Compass, to underpin its next-generation models.
