Carmaker records sales of 710 units in May 2020; had sold 1,518 units in March
65 percent of dealers and service centres now up and running
MG ZS EV to be retailed in six new cities from this month onwards – Pune, Surat, Cochin, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Chennai
MG Motor India has reported sales of 710 units for the month of May, despite the claimed supply chain constraints. The MG had recorded sales of 1,518 units in March 2020, with April seeing zero sales, like other carmakers.
The brand has resumed production at its Halol manufacturing plant and currently has achieved approximately 30 percent capacity utilisation. In terms of its sales and aftersales network in India, the company says 65 percent of its showrooms and service stations across the country are operational, albeit with reduced manpower.
Commenting on the sales performance, Rakesh Sidana, Director – Sales, MG Motor India said, “Supply chain disruption coupled with stricter credit financing along with non-operation of some dealerships due to the lockdown have impacted our sales in May. The production loss notwithstanding, our front-end retail operations continue to operate with less-than-normal staff strength. At these times, we remain connected with our customers waiting for delivery of the Hector and continue to prioritise deliveries with supply chain improvements in June. We hope to restore normalcy from July onwards. All of our vehicles' stocks across channels and dealership inventory are BS6 units.”
MG ZS EV to retail in more cities from June 2020
As part of its ‘Phase 2’ expansion plan, MG Motor India is introducing the ZS EV in six new cities – Pune, Surat, Cochin, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Chennai – from this month. This means that the all-electric SUV will now be available in 11 Indian cities. MG had launched the ZS EV in January this year, but it was only available at MG dealers in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
The company says it is preparing to serve its customers in the new normal. It recently introduced its new contact-free technology suite ‘Shield+’ to enhance the customer experience. It continues to follow all sanitisation processes at its facilities to ensure the safety of its customers and employees. The carmaker has also tied-up with Medklinn’s Cerafusion sterilisation technology for vehicle cabin sterilisation.
MG Motor India has also got new products lined-up to arrive in the coming months – the Hector’s three-row sibling, the Hector Plus, is expected quite soon. Following the Hector Plus, the full-size MG Gloster SUV is expected to arrive around the festive season.
