With bookings for the new Maruti Swift having commenced just yesterday, more information about the fourth-gen hatchback is surfacing before its launch, which is expected about a week from today. While a number of details about the Swift were known, leaked brochure images provide new titbits such as the power and torque figures of the new Z Series engine and the fuel-efficiency figure, along with confirmation on features and safety kit that’ll be available on the top-spec variant.
- New Maruti Swift delivers a claimed 25.72kpl
- India-spec 1.2-litre Z12E engine makes 82hp and 112Nm
- Six airbags to be standard across all new Swift variants
New Maruti Swift fuel-efficiency, engine details
We had exclusively reported earlier that the new Swift’s Z Series engine, which will replace the outgoing model’s four-cylinder K Series, will be more fuel-efficient (and less powerful), and this brochure leak confirms this. Compared to the outgoing Swift’s ARAI-rated efficiency, the new model has a claimed figure of 25.72kpl, which is an improvement of over 3kpl. However, it isn’t confirmed if this figure is for the manual or the automatic version of the new Swift. In addition, whether the new Swift will get an AMT automatic (like its predecessor) has yet to be revealed, though it’s likely to be the case as the more upmarket Baleno retails with an AMT unit.
Other details about the new three-pot naturally aspirated unit include its output figures – it churns out 82hp and 112Nm of peak torque, which is 8hp and 1Nm down when compared to the K Series engine. It’ll be interesting to see how that translates onto the road. As is usually the case with Maruti, a CNG-powered version of the new Swift is likely to arrive at a later date.
New Maruti Swift features, safety kit
The leaked brochure also confirms that the new Swift will be far more feature-rich than the outgoing model. Top-spec trims are going to be equipped with a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, an Arkamys sound system, a wireless charger, rear AC vents and C-type USB ports. Maruti has also upgraded the safety kit; the new Swift will have six airbags, regardless of the variant. Higher variants will also get LED fog lights.
More details about the Swift, from its variant break-up to its price, will be revealed soon. Stay tuned for more details on the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios rival.
