โข3dI am planning to buy a new SUV. Should I choose the BMW X3, Audi Q5, or the Mercedes-Benz GLC? I am only considering petrol options.

Autocar India
You should opt for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. It is the most complete choice for everyday use and long trips among these three right now. The GLC rides very comfortably on bad roads, and the petrol engine is smooth and quiet. The steering is light in the city, the view out is clear, and the automatic gearbox shifts cleanly on its own, so it is easy to drive even in heavy traffic. Inside, it feels the newest and most upmarket, and Mercedes has a wide service network across big and small cities.Pick the BMW X3 petrol only if driving fun matters most to you and you often enjoy fast highway runs yourself. It feels keener to drive than the other two, especially in the recently introduced xDrive30 variant. Choose the Audi Q5 if you want a solid, comfortable SUV that's nice to drive and excellent value for money. Do bear in mind that it's quite old now and doesn't feel as modern as the other two.Overall, for a balanced, luxurious, and easy-to-own petrol SUV, the GLC 300 is the one to buy.

โข4dHi Autocar Team, I am 60 years old and have been driving a Toyota Fortuner automatic for the past 14 years. I am now planning to upgrade to a more luxurious vehicle that offers superior comfort, especially for both city and highway use. My budget is up to โน90 lakh.

Autocar India
After living with a Fortuner for so many years, youโre clearly used to a tough, dependable SUV and likely prefer diesel power. The best upgrade that fits your brief is the Mercedes-Benz GLE. It retains that solid SUV character youโre familiar with, offers generous space, and comes with a strong, refined diesel engine paired with a part-time all-wheel-drive system. While the GLE isnโt built to take quite the same rough-and-tumble punishment as the Fortuner, it delivers far higher levels of comfort, sophistication, and ease of driving, whether in city traffic or on long highway runs. The cabin feels genuinely premium, packed with features and excellent noise insulation, making every journey relaxing. In short, the GLE 300d combines the ruggedness you value with the luxury and refinement you now deserve. Compared to the Fortunerโs utilitarian nature, it feels like a quantum leap forward into the luxury SUV world.

โข1wHello, Iโm in the market for my first, and likely only, luxury car. Iโm currently considering SUVs. Iโve test-driven the GLC, the new X3 30, Q5, and the XC60. At this point, Iโm leaning strongly toward the X3, although I was quite impressed with the Volvo as well. For some context, I currently drive a 2016 Creta, which is now in its 11th year. My usage is primarily city commuting, averaging around 500 km per month. My main question is whether the X3 is a good daily driver, given its size. Iโm planning to make the purchase later this year or early next year, ideally with minimal financing. From a timing perspective, what level of discounts could I expect if I target early next year?

Autocar India
Go for the BMW X3 30i. For your mostly city usage and as a one-time luxury buy, it fits best and will keep you happy. Coming from the Hyundai Creta, the X3 will not feel unwieldy in town. The steering is light at low speeds, the view out is clear, and the 360-degree cameras and parking sensors make navigating tight spots easy. The petrol engine and smooth automatic respond keenly in traffic, and the size feels manageable once you get used to it. Ride comfort is on the firmer side at low speeds, but it stays very steady at higher speeds. One thing to be aware of: the X3โs ride can feel a bit busy on broken city roads at crawl speeds, and the rear seat is not the widest in this class. If you want a calmer SUV, with great seats and more active safety features, the Volvo XC60 is a fine alternative, though Volvoโs dealer network is smaller. If rear-seat comfort matters most, the Mercedes GLC is the one to go for.On timing, the best deals typically come at calendar year-end and around March. A fresh, in-demand X3 usually gets small cash benefits or freebies, while the XC60 and Q5 see bigger cuts more often. Since youโll use minimal finance, ask dealers to convert low-interest schemes into a straight cash discount or add a long service pack and extended warranty.

โข1wPlanning to enter the luxury segment and comparing the c class and bmw 3 series petrol versions. My monthly usage is around 700 to 800kms. Which do u thing is a better car over all, Including usability features ground clearance resale value etc.

Autocar India
The BMW 3 Series is the better all-rounder as it delivers the best balance between driver engagement and everyday usability. The 330Li in particular offers a great mix of performance, comfort, and space โ itโs genuinely enjoyable to drive, rides well, and has a far roomier and more comfortable rear seat than the Mercedes C-Class. In comparison, the C-Classโs back seat feels cramped with limited under-thigh support, which can be an issue on longer drives. The C200 petrol variant feels a bit underwhelming in performance next to the 330Li, though the newer C300 comes closer in pace and overall polish. That said, the BMW still feels more dynamic and planted, thanks to its excellent chassis and steering.Ground clearance on both is low by luxury sedan standards, so speed breakers need to be taken with care. In terms of resale, the 3-series generally holds it value well in this segment, and ownership costs are broadly comparable. Overall, the BMW 3 Series 330Li strikes a nicer balance of driving fun, comfort, and practicality, making it the more rounded choice for your usage.

โข2wI am saving up for my first and maybe only luxury purchase in a couple of years. Confused between E220D, GLC300D, and 520D

Autocar India
Your shortlist today will almost certainly look different in a few years. By then, the current GLC 300d may well be gone, with an electrified or fullโEV GLC taking its place, so banking on that exact diesel variant being available is risky. BMWโs newโgen 5 Series for India is now only offered as the longโwheelbase 530Li petrol, so if you specifically want a diesel 520d, there isnโt oneThatโs why the MercedesโBenz E 220d remains your best bet for your first and maybe only luxury purchase. The longโwheelbase EโClass continues to be the benchmark luxury sedan, with loungeโlike rear space, a calm, almost cocooning ride and outstanding longโdistance ease. You do give up SUVโstyle ground clearance and 4Matic traction, but the E-Classโs clearance is actually quite usable by Indian luxuryโsedan standards, and the way it rides and flows at a cruise is more relaxing than a taller SUV anyway. Also in 2027 or early 2028, a facelift of the E-class is expected, and hence, it would be the right time to buy one, and hopefully, you would have saved up enough by then.

โข3wI want to buy a new SUV for daily driving under โน1.5 crore. My driving is around 3,000 km per month, including both city and highway use. I own a GLS Maybach and a Volvo XC90.

Autocar India
While there are a few interesting options in this price range, we feel you should pick the BMW X5 xDrive30d M Sport. Apart from being excellent to drive and very luxurious, it will feel like a nice departure from your GLS and Volvo XC90. BMW's straight-six engines are superb when it comes to refinement, smoothness and performance, and given your intended heavy usage, some of which is on the highway, we'd recommend the diesel, which is strong and efficient. You can easily get more than 700km out of a tank of diesel in your mixed driving cycle. An alternative is the Mercedes-Benz GLE, which offers more rear-seat space and a slightly more comfortable ride, though we feel it will be too similar to your GLS, or the Lexus RX 500h, whose smooth and efficient hybrid powertrain is an excellent alternative to the established order.

โข3wHi, I have to travel to my hometown, which is around 700 km away, 2-3 times a year with my family of three. Currently, I own a Toyota Innova Crysta 2.7V 2022 manual. I am planning to buy a luxury automatic car within a budget of โน55 lakh. Could you please suggest some suitable options? Should I consider a demo or a new car?

Autocar India
In this price range, you always have to choose badge versus value, as there are some exceptional executive sedans and SUVs available for the same price as entry-level cars with luxury badges on them. If you're after a luxury badge specifically, we recommend the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, which is excellent value for money, or if you want an SUV, the Audi Q3, which is a little dated now. But offers the best overall package of performance, practicality and comfort. However, for the same money, the Toyota Camry offers far more space comfort and mileage thanks to its strong hybrid powertrain, for similar money. And similarly, the Skoda Kodiaq or Volkswagen Tayron offer far greater space, practicality and power than a similarly priced luxury-branded SUV. However, these big, seven-seat SUVs with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines are quite thirsty and could burn a hole in your pocket at the fuel pumps. However, if you're accustomed to the running costs of an Innova Crysta 2.7 petrol, then these won't be too far off. Of all these, we recommend the Toyota Camry hybrid for its all-encompassing offering of comfort, luxury, space and mileage at this price.

โข4wHi Team, I am choosing between the C-Class, A4, and 3 Series. My old A3 had leather interiors, which, despite being well-maintained, started to look a century old. Based on your long-term experience, which car offers better interior quality in terms of leather durability and ease of maintenance? This is important to me as I prioritise interior quality.

Autocar India
Go for the MercedesโBenz CโClass C200 with ARTICO upholstery. In Indian heat and humidity, it resists cracking and dye transfer better than the A4โs or 3 Seriesโ leather options, making upkeep simpler. You specifically worry about leather ageing like your old A3, and ARTICO (a highโgrade synthetic) copes far better with 55ยฐC+ cabin temperatures and 70-90% monsoon humidity than natural hides. It only needs a mild wipe every 2-3 months, rather than conditioning, so routine care takes about 10 minutes instead of a full detail. The grain and dye on darker ARTICO shades also hide creases and denim transfers better over 2-4 years of daily use. Do confirm the exact upholstery on your chosen C200 trim, as Mercedes often fits ARTICO on most Indian variants. The one thing you give up is the soft, natural leather feel and patina. ARTICO can feel a bit firmer and less breathable on longer drives compared with real leather. If you really want a genuine leather feel and are willing to condition it every 4-6 months, consider the BMW 3 Series 330Li M Sport with Vernasca leather instead.

โข4wWhich car should I consider buying if I am planning to sell and upgrade from my 2018 Skoda Superb?

Autocar India
It's hard to guide you to the perfect fit without knowing more about your requirements and your budget. However, assuming it's a sedan that you are keen on, the ideal upgrade from a 2018 Skoda Superb would be a BMW 3 Series LWB. The long wheelbase opens up lots of legroom at the back, which is something you'd be used to from the Superb. The 3 Series LWB also delivers on ride comfort and is also very nice to drive. The 330Li petrol is particularly impressive. Further up the price ladder, there's the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The interior is not just spacious but very well appointed, and feels properly luxurious. Refinement is fantastic too, and there are loads of features and tech packed into the model as well.
Ram
โข5wI am considering the MercedesโBenz GLC 220d, BMW X3, Lexus NX, and Toyota Camry Hybrid. My monthly usage will be around 4,000 km, and resale value is also an important factor. Which one would be the best option to buy?

Autocar India
Given your extremely heavy usage, your decision to choose between diesel or strong hybrid powertrains is correct, as running costs would be through the roof on a petrol vehicle. Strong hybrids still have the edge on fuel economy, and the Lexus NX is a superb SUV with a luxurious and well-equipped interior. It's comfortable too, and quite a unique proposition. However, when it comes to resale value, sadly, it isn't quite as good as the more established German brands. Thus, we would recommend the Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d. Its diesel engine is strong yet efficient, its 9-speed AT gearbox is smooth, and it has a comfortable ride too. Plus, it has a high-quality and high-tech cabin that feels classy and plush, and will likely hold its value better than the other options you've listed here.
