I have a family of six, including kids aged 11 and 6 and elderly parents. I’m looking for a petrol automatic car focused on comfort rather than performance, mainly for city use and one annual road trip. Annual usage is under 5,000 km, and my budget is preferably within ₹22 lakh. Which car should I choose?
The Kia Carens Clavis is the ideal pick for your requirements. It's a well-packaged MPV that offers comfortable seating across all three rows. A one-touch operation for the middle row seat fold makes access to the last row easy. Also, there is ample movement built into the middle row to balance space for all passengers.
The Clavis is also easy to drive and doesn't intimidate as some three-row SUVs can. From the Clavis line-up, the Turbo DCT HTX(O) is the one to buy.
Of the other three-row petrol-auto options, there's the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.

I own two cars, a Honda City and a Baleno, both mainly used for city driving. My total petrol expense is around ₹17,000 per month, with the Baleno being used more frequently than the City. I am now looking to buy a trouble-free EV, but am confused between the Tata Punch EV, the MG Windsor EV, and the new 3XO EV. I live in an independent house, so home charging is not an issue. Please guide me.
Electric cars work particularly well for city driving, and all three options you’re considering are solid choices. In our real-world range test, the Tata Punch EV (Long Range) delivered around 242 km in urban conditions, which is more than adequate for everyday city use. It is a compact car, though, so if the smaller size isn’t a concern for you, the Punch EV is a sensible option.
If cabin space is a higher priority, the Windsor EV is the better fit. In our range test, it returned a real-world figure of about 327 km in the city. The Pro variant is likely to offer even better range, while also providing a noticeably roomier cabin and a more comfortable overall experience.

My budget is ₹7 lakh and I do not want a Maruti Suzuki. I am open to other car makers and also considering an EV. Which car should I choose?
Unfortunately, no EV is available within a budget of Rs 7 lakh. You will have to extend your budget by at least 1-1.50 lakh to purchase the entry-level MG Comet or Tata Tiago EV.
The MG Comet is an excellent urban runabout, due to its tiny footprint, which makes it easy to manoeuvre and park. Occasionally, it can seat four passengers in relative comfort, with the only limiting factor being access to its rear seats due to its two-door layout. The Tata Tiago EV is relatively more conventional in its approach, and it drives a bit better than the Comet.
Also, it is the Tata Tiago EV, which will feel a bit more comfortable and confident for the occasional highway drives. Hence, if this is going to be your primary vehicle, we'd recommend the Tata Tiago EV for its well-roundedness.

I want to buy a car for my parents (both around 60 years old). The monthly running will be about 1,000km. We are looking for an automatic with good mileage, and the budget is ₹15-18 lakh. Should we consider an EV?
You can consider an electric car if you have access to home charging and most of your driving is within the city. While EV charging infrastructure on highways is growing rapidly, it remains unreliable, so if your parents need to travel extensively on highways, trips will require careful planning to ensure hassle-free travel.
If you do decide to go electric, the MG Windsor EV Pro is a good option. It comes with a 52.9kWh battery and a claimed range of 449km. You can expect a real-world range of around 350-370km. This MG car is spacious, has wide-opening doors that make ingress and egress easy, and offers a comfortable ride, making it well-suited to your requirements.

My budget is around ₹20 lakh, and I am looking for an automatic transmission. I need delivery before January 2026. Most of my driving will be in the city, with one out-of-station trip every month. I am currently considering the new MG Hector 2026. Are there any other options I should look at?
The MG Hector's strength is its rear comfort; the seats are comfy, there's plenty of room, and the flat floor aids the overall comfort, too. However, bear in mind that the fuel efficiency is not very good, and neither is the high-speed stability on highways.
If this is a concern for you, check out the new Kia Seltos, which is a very good all-rounder in this segment. Do check with your local dealer about deliveries, though.

Hi, I am planning to buy an automatic car for my dad. He wants a small car that is easy to drive and park in Chennai traffic. I am considering the MG Comet. Is it a good option?
The MG Comet is a wonderful city runabout thanks to its small footprint, light steering and tight turning circle, good visibility, as well as smooth and adequately zippy electric motor. What's more is that it is surprisingly spacious to ferry 4 adults, should the need arise.
Moreover, with just two occupants on board, it also makes for an excellent car for the airport run (by folding the rear seats), as it can accommodate four large suitcases with ease. Yes, its ride comfort or audio system isn't as good as the Tata Tiago EV's, which is available at a similar price. But purely looking at it from a convenience and ease-of-use point of view, this MG car is an excellent secondary car.

I have been using my Jeep Compass Limited manual edition for the last 7 years. My daily usage is 50 km a day in the city and occasional highway journeys. I want a robust SUV with an automatic diesel engine and advanced safety features. My budget is between 25-45 lakhs. Please advise.
Check out the MG Gloster. The large 7-seater feels like a considerable step up from your Jeep Compass (or indeed its larger sibling, the Meridian) and comes with a smooth yet strong diesel engine and a smooth 8-speed automatic gearbox. And though it is large, its light controls make it manoeuvrable enough in the city.
This MG car also comes with a long list of features, which includes safety features like an ADAS suite, but that's in the higher variants, so you might have to increase your budget slightly for that.

I am looking for a 7-seater SUV with a budget of around ₹70 lakh. Please suggest the best option, or should I wait for a year for more choices?
Rs 70 lakh is a substantial budget for a 7-seat SUV, but the sad reality is that there aren't too many options for the money. The charming Land Rover Discovery Sport is the closest in terms of price, but third-row space, comfort, and access are poor.
You could look at options a few rungs down the price ladder. The Skoda Kodiaq, for one, is a great SUV that scores for its premium feel, but, again, third-row space isn't great. Likewise, Volkswagen Tayron, which will go on sale in the coming months, also promises a premium vibe but is unlikely to offer great room at the very back. If third-row space isn't critical, we'd suggest you look at the Skoda and Volkswagen cars.
Another upcoming option is the MG Majestor, expected in 2026. It's a large SUV that promises generous space even for third-row passengers. The Majestor will be well-equipped, packing in lots of creature comforts, and the body-on-frame construction should also lend it a tough appeal. However, we will only be able to comment on the driving experience once we get behind the wheel of the SUV when it arrives in 2026.

Hello, I am looking to buy a new car with a budget of ₹15 to 18 lakh. I am open to either an electric vehicle or a petrol manual, and want a car with good features.
The MG Windsor EV is one of the best-selling electric cars in the market, and it will fit within your budget. The car is feature-loaded with kit, like - panoramic glass roof, 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, reclinable rear seats, etc, and the Pro variants also get ADAS.
Do keep in mind that the user interface of this Mg car can get confusing to begin with due to the over-reliance on the touchscreen (even for basic controls); however, you will get used to it in some time. Also, the Pro's ADAS is poorly calibrated; hence, if you have the option, opt for the variant without it.
A feature-loaded ICE option in this price range is the Hyundai Creta, which comes with either a 1.5 turbo-petrol or 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol, both engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It is a great car - one you won't go wrong with.

My daily commute ranges between 40 and 50 km. Which EV would you suggest between the MG Windsor EV and the Tata Punch EV, or should I wait for the Tata Sierra EV? I am 6 ft 3 inches tall and need good legroom.
The MG Windsor EV is not only a superior electric vehicle but is also significantly roomier than the Tata Punch EV. The MG's added space is something you will really appreciate, making it the easy pick of the two models on your shortlist.
However, if you don't mind the wait, the Tata Sierra EV could be the best pick for you. It's larger than the Windsor EV and promises more headroom, legroom, and shoulder room. Final specifications for the Sierra EV aren't out yet, but we expect it to be more powerful and capable of delivering a longer range than the Windsor EV.
