TVS Motor has slashed the price of its Wego scooter by Rs 2,000. This move comes at a time when most manufacturers have been hiking prices of their products. Earlier this week, TVS itself had increased the price of its flagship motorcycle, the Apache RR 310 by Rs 8,000 (story link).
The base version of the Wego now costs Rs 50,165, instead of the earlier Rs 52,165, and the disc variant carries a sticker price of Rs 53,083 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
The reduction in price is TVS' attempt to revive sales of the scooter. According to the February 2018 sales report, only 1,901 units of the Wego were sold as against 3,402 units in the same period in 2017. The Wego has been overshadowed by the Jupiter, which is based on it.
Powering the Wego is a 109.7cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 8hp at 7,500rpm and 8.4Nm at 5,500rpm. It is equipped with features like a full-digital instrument console, Power and Eco mode indicator, external fuel filler cap, optional underseat mobile charger and an LED tail-light.
The TVS Wego competes with the Honda Activa-i, Suzuki Lets, Yamaha Ray-Z and the Hero Pleasure.
