Bajaj has finally launched its highly anticipated motorcycle, the Freedom 125, which is the world’s first CNG bike. Its prices start at Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom India) and go up to Rs 1.10 lakh for the range-topping variant. Here’s everything you need to know about this unique offering.

The Freedom 125 is powered by a 125cc horizontally mounted single-cylinder engine that produces 9.5hp at 8,000rpm and 9.7Nm at 6,000rpm and has a claimed range of 330km. This motor can run on either CNG or petrol at the flip of a switch. The petrol tank’s capacity is 2 litres and the CNG’s is 2kg. The CNG tank weighs 18kg when fully filled with gas. The company has claimed a 102km per kg mileage on CNG and a 65kpl efficiency when using petrol.

The CNG tank is cradled in a trellis frame, which acts as a protective cage. At 149kg, the Freedom 125 is 18kg heavier than the CT125X. It has a 785mm-long single-piece seat, which Bajaj claims is the longest in its segment. The seat is 825mm high, 15mm more than the CT125X’s. Suspension duties are taken care of by a telescopic fork at the front and a linked monoshock at the rear.

In terms of looks, Bajaj has followed a minimalist yet rugged design language for the Freedom 125, which has a full LED headlight and tail-light, along with a set of halogen indicators. The instrument cluster is a monochrome LCD display that supports Bluetooth connectivity. Both fuel tanks and the air filter can be accessed via a large flap.

The Freedom 125 is available in three variants: Disc LED, Drum LED and Drum. This motorcycle comes with a total of seven dual-tone colour options that are divided among the variants. Bookings have commenced across all dealerships and on the Bajaj website.

The motorcycle has passed 11 safety tests based on industry standards as well as Bajaj’s in-house benchmarks. The company plans to export the Freedom 125 to countries such as Egypt, Tanzania, Columbia, Peru, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
