Hero regains the lead in August 2024 bike, scooter sales

    While Hero is back on top, the gap between Honda and Hero is less than a thousand units.

    Sales figures for the month of August 2024 are in and here’s how every big two-wheeler OEM fared ahead of entering the long Indian festive season. 

    Hero MotoCorp: 4,92,263 units

    In July, Honda usurped Hero’s long standing number 1 spot on the sales charts but Hero has returned to the top step in August. With 4,92,263 units sold, it marks a large 41.64 percent increase compared to the relatively low (for Hero) 3,47,535 units sold in July 2024. Even compared to the 4,72,947 units sold in August last year, Hero reported a 4.10 percent increase. Hero recently updated the Glamour 125 and will shortly launch an all-new Destini 125 scooter.     Honda: 4,91,678 units

    While Honda has settled back into its second place position, the gap between it and Hero is less than one thousand units. It looks like we’ll be witnessing a lot of back and forth between the two former partners in the sales arena. Compared to the 4,39,118 units it sold in July 2024, HMSI reported an 11.97 percent increase. Similarly, it also reported an 8.97 percent uptick compared to August 2023’s 4,51,200 units sales tally. 

    TVS: 2,89,073 units

    From here on out, most manufacturers have stuck to their routine positions and with 2,89,073 units sold in August, TVS reported a 13.58 percent increase compared to its July 2024 numbers (2,54,250 units). In a similar vein, TVS also reported a 12.65 percent increase in August 2023 with 2,56,619 units sold in that period.     Bajaj: 2,08,621 units

    While Bajaj is in its usual spot, fourth place overall, it has relatively less of a gap to TVS than usual - normally the two companies are roughly 1L units adrift of each other). Compared to its July 2024 tally of 1,68,847 units, Bajaj has reported a 23.56 percent increase. Even compared to its August 2023 sales number of 1,60,820 units, it reported a 29.72 percent increase.     Suzuki: 87,480 units

     

    After a record high of over 1 lakh units sold domestically (1,00,602 units, to be precise)in July, Suzuki has reported a 13.04 percent decline in August with sales of 87,480 units. However, compared to its August 2023 sales figure of 83,045 units, the company reported an increase of 5.34 percent. 

    Royal Enfield: 65,624 units

    Compared to its July 2024 sales tally of 61,208 units, Royal Enfield reported a 7.2 percent increase in August. But, compared to its August 2023 number of 69,393 units, the company reported a 5.43 percent decline. Royal Enfield just launched the updated version of its bestselling model, the Classic 350, and this should help strengthen its numbers in September. To read more about that, tap here
