The next-generation Ducati DesertX has been spotted on test, revealing key updates for the 2026 model year bike. As with some other twin-cylinder Ducatis that recently received a refresh, the upcoming DesertX is expected to swap its current Testastretta motor for the newer V2 engine from the Panigale V2, Streetfighter V2 and Multistrada V2.

  2. Expected to debut at EICMA 2025 in November
  3. Significant weight reduction anticipated

Next-gen Ducati DesertX: What to expect

New engine and chassis promise major weight savings

The most significant change for the next-generation DesertX will be the switch from the current 937cc Testastretta V2 engine to the lighter, more compact 890cc V2. On the Multistrada V2, this motor produces 115.6hp at 10,750rpm and 92.1Nm at 8,250rpm. For reference, the outgoing DesertX produces 110hp at 9,250rpm and 92Nm at 6,500rpm.

More importantly, this new engine is approximately 5.8kg lighter, and additional weight savings are expected from the revised chassis that will accommodate the engine update. With the updated Multistrada V2, Ducati shaved a substantial 18kg, and a similar reduction can be expected here. For context, the current DesertX tips the scales at 210kg (kerb weight, without fuel).

While the bike in the spy shots is camouflaged, it does retain the familiar DesertX silhouette but with some notable changes to the rear, including a refreshed tail section and a redesigned swingarm.

The next-generation DesertX is expected to debut at EICMA 2025 in Milan this November, alongside other updated models such as the revised Ducati Monster, which has also been seen testing with the same engine.
