We like

  • Space and comfort

  • Appealing design

We don't like

  • Some popular features missing

  • Boosterjet not as punchy as expected

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx takes the popular Baleno hatch platform and gives it an SUV-inspired body that blends high ride height with a coupe-like roofline and strong shoulder line. The front end wears a bold grille flanked by squared LED headlamps and a puckered bumper that lifts its road presence. At the rear, sleek tail lamps and a roof spoiler add dynamism while retaining everyday usability.

Engineering focuses on versatility and drivability above outright performance. Suspension is tuned for a balance of comfort and control, and ground clearance is generous for a compact crossover. The Fronx does not aim to be an off-roader but feels confident on broken city roads and highways alike.

Inside, the cabin is functional and user friendly. A floating touchscreen sits atop the dashboard, with easy-to-reach controls and logical placement of buttons. The seats are comfortable for long drives, and front occupants get supportive bolstering. Materials are competitive for the segment, though some hard plastics and simple trim surfaces remind you of the carโ€™s value focus.

Rear seat space is accommodating for two adults with adequate headroom and knee room, and the boot is practical for weekend luggage or shopping runs. Visibility is good all around, aided by the upright seating position and ample glass area.

1) 1.2-litre DualJet petrol
This naturally aspirated unit is tuned for smooth responses and everyday usability. It produces healthy low-end torque and linear delivery that suits city driving and moderate highway progress. Refinement is strong for a small petrol engine, with minimal vibration and quiet cruising at urban speeds. Gear ratios in the 5-speed manual and AGS automatic help make traffic manoeuvring and relaxed touring easy.

2) 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol
This turbo unit brings genuine pep to the Fronx. Itโ€™s lively off the line and maintains strong mid-range punch, making overtakes and highway progress more effortless than the 1.2-litre. Smooth responses and willing acceleration combine with good refinement; engine noise is kept in check at moderate speeds and only climbs noticeably when pushed hard. The 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque-converter automatic pair well with the turbo, with automatic shifts feeling particularly composed in daily driving.

Refinement is generally good across both engines. Wind and tyre noise are controlled, and road harshness is absorbed confidently by the chassis, though wind noise can creep in at sustained high speeds.

Fuel efficiency is a strength for both variants. The 1.2-litre petrol returns strong economy figures in mixed driving thanks to its efficient DualJet tech and lightweight tuning. The Boosterjet turbo manages respectable economy for its performance level, especially when driven with restraint. Neither engine feels particularly thirsty for a compact petrol crossover.

Ride quality leans towards comfort without feeling floaty. Suspension soaks urban potholes and road irregularities with ease, and the Fronx feels composed on highway undulations. Steering is light in the city and builds confidence at higher speeds, though it does not offer feedback for enthusiastic driving.

Handling is predictable and secure rather than dynamic. Body roll is present through tighter bends, especially in taller ride height variants, but the car remains planted and confidence-inspiring for everyday use.

The Fronx comes well equipped. A touchscreen with smartphone connectivity anchors the centre stack, supported by connected car tech and a digital instrument cluster in higher variants. Convenience features such as rear AC vents, ample USB ports and steering-mounted controls add to everyday usability.

Safety kit includes multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-hold assist and ISOFIX mounts. Parking sensors and a rear camera help in tight city situations. While not segment-topping, the safety suite is solid for its class.

The Fronx sits attractively within the compact SUV segment. The 1.2-litre petrol models appeal to buyers prioritising comfort, economy and ease of use, while the Boosterjet turbo variants attract those who want livelier performance without a large price jump. Competitive pricing, a broad feature list and sensible packaging make it a compelling choice for families and first-time SUV buyers alike.

Asked by: Jigaron Mar 19, 2026

I am planning to buy the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, but am confused between the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo 3-cylinder engine. My driving will be around 60% on highways and 40% in the city. Could you please suggest which engine option would be better suited for my usage?

Considering your 60% highway and 40% city usage, we would suggest going for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0 turbo petrol.

The turbo engine offers much stronger performance, especially on the highway. Overtakes feel quicker and more effortless, which is important for highway driving. It also comes with a proper 6-speed automatic, which is smoother and more refined compared to the AMT offered with the 1.2 engine, making it better suited for both city and highway use.

The 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, on the other hand, is smoother and simpler, but it feels less powerful, especially on highways. The AMT gearbox is convenient but not as smooth as the automatic offered with the turbo variant.

I am planning to buy the Maruti Suzuki Fronx but am confused between the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo 3-cylinder engine. My driving will be around 30% in the city and 70% on highways. Could you please suggest which engine option would be better suited for my usage?

Pick the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0 Boosterjet Zeta MT - your 70% highway use will benefit from its stronger midโ€‘range punch (about 147 Nm vs 113 Nm) for safer overtakes and fewer downshifts.

With 70% highway driving, the 1.0 turboโ€™s extra shove makes a clear difference when going from 60-100 km/h or climbing inclines; it has around 100 PS/147 Nm versus the 1.2โ€™s ~90 PS/113 Nm. That extra ~34 Nm means easier overtakes with 3-4 people on board and a more relaxed cruise. For your 30% city runs, the turboโ€™s lowโ€‘gear pull helps in slow traffic, and the Fronxโ€™s compact size keeps parking simple. If your monthly km is higher, the stronger midโ€‘range will feel rewarding on every trip.

The one thing you give up is the 1.2โ€™s smoother, quieter 4โ€‘cylinder feel; the 3โ€‘cylinder turbo has a mild thrum at idle and can sound a bit busier when cruising.

If your usage shifts to mostly city (over 60%) or you prefer a calmer, linear engine and a lower upfront price, consider the Fronx 1.2 Zeta MT instead; check with the dealer for current pricing.

On the test drive, in the 1.0 do a 40-80 km/h pull in 3rd gear and then hold 100 km/h; note midโ€‘range response, engine noise, and whether you need frequent downshifts to maintain pace.

I just sold my Ford Aspire diesel. I am looking to choose between Fronx CNG and Brezza CNG. We are a couple with 2 kids. My run will be 40% city and 60% highway. My preference is a comfortable ride for the family and an easy-to-manoeuvre car between these two. I will wait for the underbody CNG updates in both cars. Which car should we buy? Please assist. Monthly running is 1,200-1,500km.

You can't go wrong with either of the two cars. However, since you are looking at ride quality and drive more on highways, we'd recommend you lean towards the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The ride and handling set-up of the Brezza has an emphasis on a cushioned low-speed ride, and thus, potholes in the city are well absorbed with hardly any harshness. The softer spring, though, means there is some pitch and squat on undulating highways, and since you drive more on the highways, the Fronx would thus be better.
It offers a more stable high-speed ride, and while the ride quality is definitely stiffer than the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, itโ€™s not uncomfortable or jarring. The rear room is also lower than the Brezza, but given that it's your two kids who would sit at the back, the Fronx should not be a problem here, too.

My office is located 10km from my house, with mixed city and highway driving. I am planning to buy a car which is automatic and fuel-efficient. Budget around โ‚น10 lakh. Could you please suggest a car that will be relevant for up to 15 years?

We would suggest you go for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta+ AMT. The Fronx has a fuel-efficient 1.2-litre engine mated to an AMT gearbox that is well-tuned and smooth enough for daily driving. It is also fairly spacious, offers a large boot and a comfortable ride, which makes it an ideal companion for everyday city commutes and occasional highway drives.
If you want something smaller and easier to manoeuvre, you can consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT. It is a more compact car, which makes it even easier to drive and park in the city. However, the new Swift now comes with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, which feels a bit less powerful compared to the Fronxโ€™s four-cylinder engine. Because of this, the AMT gearbox also works better with the Fronx engine than it does with the Swift.
Within your budget, you can also consider the Hyundai i20 IVT/CVT in the Magna variant. The CVT gearbox is very smooth, which elevates the overall driving experience and makes the car extremely easy to drive in traffic. The interiors of the i20 also feel quite premium. The only downside is that you will have to trade a bit of fuel efficiency for that smoothness, which is something to keep in mind since efficiency is an important factor for you.

I am planning to sell my Mahindra XUV500 as it is nearing the end of its registration validity in Delhi NCR, and I want to buy a 5-seater SUV under โ‚น10 lakh. My preference is for a fuel-efficient car as my daily running is around 100 km, but it should also be spacious enough for five people. Since fuel efficiency is a priority, I am open to both CNG and diesel cars. My usage will be 70% city and 30% highway, mostly within Delhi NCR. I have narrowed my choices to the Maruti Brezza CNG, Tata Nexon CNG, Kia Sonet Diesel, and Maruti Fronx CNG. Please help me evaluate which would be the better option. I am also open to any other better option if available.

The Maruti Brezza CNG and Fronx CNG will be more fuel efficient than the Nexon iCNG, and their clutch and gearbox make them friendlier to drive, too. The Brezza is due for a facelift in the coming weeks, so you might want to wait for that to arrive.

The Kia Sonet diesel will feel punchier to drive (than the CNG options listed above), while being very efficient too. Also, by opting for a diesel, you won't need to wait in long queues to refill CNG. Even the Sonet is due for a generation update, which is likely to be launched this year.

Another option you could consider is the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel MX2, which is more spacious than a Sonet. Its ride-handling balance is very impressive; the Sonet, however, has an edge in terms of fuel efficiency.

I need a car within โ‚น10 lakh on-road in Bangalore. 80-90% city usage and 10-20% highway. It should have all the necessary features, inside and outside. It should be comfortable for my parents, with low maintenance, tension-free and reliable ownership. Occasionally, I may use it for long trips as well. This is my first car, and I am a new driver, so an automatic is better.

We would recommend you take a look at the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Being a Maruti car, it will meet your requirements of being low on maintenance and generally tension-free. The car is also slightly higher off the ground compared to sedans and hatchbacks at this price, and thus, this will offer an easy entry and exit for your parents. Rear seat head and legroom are also good, and for two adults, the rear is very spacious and a comfortable place to be in.
The Fronx fits within the 'small car' definition as it measures less than 4-meters in length, thus it is very manageable in crowded city conditions. For your few highway trips, too, you will find the handling secure, and the car remains planted at regular highway speeds.

Within a budget of around โ‚น12 lakh (could extend some), I want to buy a petrol manual car which is fun to drive, reliable and will not be so heavy on my pocket for fueling and maintenance. My monthly usage is around 400km, mostly city and occasional road trips. Which car will you suggest?

You can consider the Maruti Suzuki Fronx or the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor in their top turbo petrol manual variants. The engine, despite being turbocharged, has hardly any turbo lag and offers good punch. It also comes with a light clutch and a slick gearbox, which makes it easy to drive in the city. Even on an open road or around a ghat section, both these cars are surprisingly fun to drive, and over bad roads, the suspension delivers a comfortable ride as well. For a turbo petrol engine, efficiency is also quite impressive. Overall, there is actually not much to fault here.
If you want something that feels a bit more premium, you can look at the Skoda Kylaq, the Signature+ MT variant. The Kylaq is a fun car to drive, but the clutch is heavier, and you will feel more turbo lag. It will also not be as efficient as the Fronx turbo petrol, and the peace of mind ownership experience may not be as strong.

I am planning to buy a compact SUV with a petrol automatic transmission and am considering the Kia Sonet 1.0 Turbo DCT. However, I have come across several reviews mentioning that turbo DCT gearboxes may not be suitable for long-term ownership, may offer lower mileage, and have a relatively stiff suspension setup. Could you please guide me on whether the Kia Sonet petrol turbo DCT would be a good choice for ownership of 10 years or more? Also, does the DCT gearbox tend to overheat in heavy traffic conditions? Is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine suitable for highway drives and hill usage?

The ride quality on the Kia Sonet is a weak spot. With its relatively short wheelbase and firm suspension tuning, the Sonetโ€™s ride can feel lumpy over uneven surfaces and sharper potholes. In our real-world test, the Sonet DCT managed 11.6kpl in the city and 16.5kpl on the highway, which is respectable for the segment.

The DCT gearboxes in Hyundais and Kias have generally proven to be quite reliable and are a good choice in this segment. However, it is worth noting that they use a dry clutch pack, which will wear over time and eventually require replacement. Heavy use in stop-and-go traffic, slowly creeping up slopes, and letting the car sit in D while stationary can accelerate wear, and replacing the clutch pack can be expensive. For added peace of mind, you could opt for an extended warranty, but ensure that it covers the DCT and its internal components, such as the clutch pack.

If you still have reservations, then consider the Skoda Kylaq, the Mahindra XUV 3XO, and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, all of which can be had with torque-converter automatics.

I am planning to buy a new car but am confused between the Tata Punch Pure Plus (2026), Maruti Suzuki Baleno Delta, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx. My budget is around โ‚น8 lakh, but I can stretch it up to โ‚น9 lakh. My usage will include both city and highway driving, and at times, there will be three passengers seated in the rear. I am also considering increasing my budget further to buy a Tata Nexon, which has added to my confusion. Could you please help me choose the right option?

The new Tata Punch is a solid choice in the Rs 8 lakh budget; however, it is quite narrow, which means seating three in the back seat can be a bit tight. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is better in this regard, with a slightly wider and more comfortable rear seat, but do visit both showrooms and experience them yourself. Both cars are comparable in terms of performance and efficiency, but the Balenoโ€™s four-cylinder engine is more refined than the Punchโ€™s three-cylinder unit.

Apart from the different body style and slightly raised suspension, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is essentially the same as the Baleno. Therefore, the main reason to upgrade to the Fronx is if you need the higher ground clearance or want the turbo-petrol engine, which is not available on the Baleno.

Regarding the Tata Nexon, to get a reasonably well-equipped variant, you will need to stretch your budget to around Rs 10 lakh and opt for the Pure Plus petrol variant. For the additional money, you get an SUV body style, a roomier cabin with a better rear seat than the aforementioned options, and a turbo-petrol engine with much stronger performance. If it isnโ€™t too much of a financial burden, it is worth stretching to get the Nexon. But if you want to stick to your budget, the Baleno remains a good choice.

My daily driving is around 20 km in a small city and nearby villages, and my budget is Rs 12-14 lakh. I prefer a car with a powerful engine. Which car would you recommend?

There are a couple of options that you can consider. We've listed the highlights for each.

1) Skoda Kylaq: Punchy engine, fun handling. Rear seat space is tight, though

2) Mahindra XUV 3XO petrol: Strong engine, good ride comfort. Boot space is limited

3) Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo/ Toyota Taisor Turbo: Strong engine. Reliability and hassle-free ownership experience

4) Citroen C3: Strong engine. Feels a bit basic, and the service network isn't very large.
