Yamaha India has introduced the Version 4.0 of the FZ-S Fi and it features a few notable upgrades over the previous bike. The variant in question is the Deluxe, which is the top-spec, and is priced at Rs 1.27 lakh. Here’s what’s new on the bike.
- Only 150cc commuter segment to feature traction control
- Gets all LED lighting
- Gets new digital instrument cluster
Yamaha FZ-S Fi Version 4.0 deluxe: what’s new
Starting with the way the bike looks, Yamaha has replaced the old LED headlight with a brand new cluster. It consists of a reflector style LED headlight in the centre with separate LEDs for low and high beams. The headlight is flanked by LED Daytime Running Lamps and manages to lend the bike a meaner looking face. Crowning the headlight is a small windscreen that incorporates LED indicators. In fact, Yamaha is offering LED indicators on its entire range of motorcycles in India. The rest of the bike’s design is the same, and bits like the blue coloured wheels and chunky fuel tank are some of the highlights.
In terms of safety, Yamaha has introduced a traction control system on this motorcycle. This makes the FZ-S Fi deluxe V4 the only bike in the segment to feature this safety system. Some may argue the need to equip a 150cc bike that makes 12.4hp and 13.3Nm with traction control. However, considering the unpredictability of Indian roads, with gravel, sand, water or spilt diesel catching out the best of riders, the safety net that traction control provides cannot be discounted. That being said, this top-spec FZ still doesn’t get dual channel ABS, which would have upped the safety quotient further. The additional cost is the only possible explanation why the bike gets ABS on the front wheel only.
Lastly, the Yamaha FZ-S Fi deluxe Version 4.0 gets a new digital instrument cluster that seems to be lifted off the Yamaha MT-15. It features Bluetooth connectivity and, using the Yamaha Y-Connect app, users can pair their smartphone and receive incoming calls, SMS alerts and more.
Updates to the rest of the Yamaha range
Besides the FZ-S Fi V4, the company also updates the FZ-X, MT-15 and R15 motorcycles. The FZ-X and MT-15 also get a traction control system, while the R15 already had it. The R15 M also gets a new colour TFT instrument cluster. The FZ-X and MT-15 also get LED turn indicators. You can read more about them here.
