Audi is set to bring the high-performance version of the recently introduced Q7 to India, with a launch likely around Diwali this year. The latest addition to the Q7 line-up, which sits on top of Audi’s range, could carry a price tag that's Rs 25 lakh higher than the regular Q7. 

 

The carmaker claims the SQ7 is the first production vehicle to get an electrically powered compressor (EPC), which enables faster response of its twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 diesel motor. The compressor has been designed to complement the two turbochargers by increasing the flow of air in the induction system – particularly at lower engine speeds – that improves the engine's responsiveness at the very bottom of the rev range before the twin-sequential turbos kick in.

 

The result? The SQ7 is propelled to 100kph from standstill in 4.8 seconds with the top speed being limited at 250kph by the V8 motor, which puts out a mammoth 435hp and 900Nm of torque. The EPC is driven by a 48-volt electrical sub-system, while the two conventional turbos are driven by exhaust gases.

 

The SQ7 also uses electro-mechanical active roll bars that derive power from the 48-volt electrical sub-system, for minimum roll during cornering. The active roll bars are also shared with the Bentley Bentayga, which is based on the same architecture as the SQ7.

 

In terms of the exterior, the SQ7 sets itself apart from the standard car by a series of subtle revisions such as a grille insert, uniquely styled bumpers, aluminium housings for the door mirrors and four rectangular tailpipes. 

 

The new Audi comes with standard 20-inch wheels, though it can be had with wheels up to 22 inches. An optional brake package using the same ceramic-carbon brake discs offered on the second-generation R8 are also among the list of options. The vehicle could also be available in five- and seven-seat layouts. However, it remains to seen what options the German carmaker will bring to India at launch.
