Citroen has finally launched its fourth model under its C-cubed programme for India - the Basalt coupe-SUV. The Basalt promises to be a lucrative option for anyone eyeing a new midsize or compact SUV, thanks to its unique coupe-like roofline. Here's everything you need to know about it:

How much does the Citroen Basalt cost?

The Citroen Basalt has been launched at an introductory starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The introductory price tag will be applicable on bookings made before October 31. Do note that Citroen has only announced the starting price of the Basalt. The full price list is expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Which SUVs does the Basalt rival?

The Citroen Basalt will directly rival the Tata Curvv, which was also launched recently. It will also face competition from midsize SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, among others.

What features does the Citroen Basalt get?

The Basalt will get the same dashboard as the C3 Aircross, including a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a digital instrument cluster. It will also get an automatic climate control, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, rear AC vents and contoured rear headrests. In addition, the rear bench seat gets adjustable thigh support, which is a segment-first feature.

What engine options does the Basalt offer?

Powering the Basalt are two 1.2-litre petrol engine options: a 82hp, 115Nm naturally aspirated unit and a 110hp turbo-petrol engine. The turbo-petrol engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox (where it makes 190Nm) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic (generating 205Nm), while the NA unit gets a 5-speed manual only.

How is the Citroen Basalt to drive?

Unlike many cars where the throttle feels dulled down in the interest of fuel economy, the Basalt’s crisp accelerator responses coupled with its nicely-judged gear ratios do well to mitigate turbo-lag below 2000rpm. Ride comfort has always been Citroen’s forte, and we’re happy to report that the Basalt meets the high expectations. You can read our first drive review of the Citroen Basalt here.

    All prices are ex-showroom, India.
