Citroen is all set to launch its latest model, the Basalt, in India. The company has started manufacturing the SUV-coupe, which was revealed in near-production form a few months ago. With its unique coupe-like roofline, a first in the mass-market SUV category, the Basalt promises to be a lucrative option for anyone eyeing a new midsize or compact SUV. Here's everything you need to know about it:

When is the Citroen Basalt launching?

The production of the Citroen Basalt SUV-coupe began last week, and the launch is expected in the coming months. However, the exact date has not been confirmed yet.

Which SUVs will the Basalt rival?

The Citroen Basalt will have no direct rivals as it will be the first mass-market SUV-coupe in the country. However, the 4.3-metre long car will provide an alternative to midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and others. Additionally, the segment will see competition from the upcoming Tata Curvv in the future.

Will the Citroen Basalt be feature-packed?

Citroen hasn't revealed the Basalt’s equipment details yet, but it is expected to surpass the C3 Aircross, launched last year, in features. It’s likely to come with the 7-seater SUV’s dashboard, including a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a digital instrument cluster. Other expected features might include electric folding mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, push-button start, and keyless entry.

What engine options will the Basalt offer?

The Basalt will come with the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross, producing 110hp and 205Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.

How much will the Citroen Basalt cost?

Citroen will position the Basalt above the C3 Aircross in its line-up, making it slightly costlier than the current 7-seater SUV, which ranges from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.11 lakh. Price of the car is expected to start around Rs 11 lakh-12 lakh.
