Honda has unveiled a new range of VTEC engines that will come with petrol direct injection and turbo charging. There will be three displacement options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder version.

According to Honda, the 1.0-litre three-cylinder and the 1.5-litre four-cylinder units combine a base engine with a newly designed framework to the VTEC system; and there’s the addition of a turbocharger too. These units will come with direct-injection technology which would churn out higher output and torque numbers as compared to the naturally aspirated engines, without losing out on fuel economy.

The 2.0-litre VTEC turbo direct-injection petrol engine will have an output of more than 280bhp and will also be Euro-6 emission norm compliant.

Honda’s new range of VTEC turbo engines could be a direct answer to Ford’s award-winning range of EcoBoost engines. The Japanese carmaker has not revealed which models will get this new engine range. Honda’s taken its time to launch the diesel engine in India, but we do expect the carmaker to bring the new VTEC turbo range here soon.
