Mahindra is making the seven-seat version of the XUV700 more accessible by introducing it in the entry-level MX variant. Priced at Rs 15 lakh with the diesel engine, the XUV700 MX 7-seater undercuts the AX3 7-seater by Rs 3 lakh. Mechanically and feature-wise, the new three-row variant is the same as the XUV700 MX 5-seater.

    1. XUV700 MX 7-seater costs Rs 40,000 more than 5-seater
    2. Gets 8-inch infotainment, analogue dials, Android Auto, four speakers
    3. Only available with 6-speed manual gearbox

Compared to the XUV700 MX 5-seater with the 2.2-litre diesel engine, which costs Rs 14.60 lakh, the seven-seat version is priced Rs 40,000 higher. The MX 7-seater shares all its equipment with the two-row version; there’s an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto, four speakers, a 7-inch MID and analogue dials, multiple USB ports, tilt adjustable steering, a centre armrest with storage, adjustable headrest four passengers, follow-me-home headlamps, powered ORVMs and ISOFIX anchors.

It is also likely to sport the third row AC vents, second row with a centre armrest, and 60:40 one-touch tumble function seen on the other seven-seat trims. The same five colour options seen on the MX are likely to be on offer as well – Everest white, Midnight black, Dazzling red, Red rage, and Napoli Black.

The XUV700 MX 7-seater is mechanically identical to the 5-seater. Both have the same lower-powered 156hp, 2.2-litre diesel engine, which only comes with the 6-speed manual gearbox. As the MX 5-seater trim is also available with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mill and 6-speed manual, it is likely that the 7-seater will also come with this option. Stay tuned for its prices.

With the introduction of this new entry-level trim, Mahindra is making the XUV700 range more affordable and more premium simultaneously – the SUV specialist has also brought out the higher-spec XUV700 Blaze to the market recently.

What this also means is that starting prices for Mahindra's large three-row SUV now undercuts the Tata Safari (Rs 16.19 lakh), and the seven-seat diesel version of the MG Hector Plus (Rs 17 lakh).
