    MG Hector Plus: what's new

The mid-spec petrol Select Pro trim that was only available with a manual gearbox now gets a CVT automatic, too. The entry-level diesel Smart Pro variant that was only available as a 6-seater, now gets a 7-seater option with a bench seat for the second row. Both new variants essentially make the petrol-auto combination and the diesel with a 7-seater configuration more affordable.

Both variants come with features like a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment, connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging. Both also come with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED projector headlamps, sequential turn indicators, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a full-LED instrument cluster and push button start with keyless go.

The Hector Plus petrol-CVT uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit good for 143hp and 250Nm; the same is also available with a manual gearbox. Meanwhile, the diesel-MT is a Stellantis-sourced 2.0-litre mill that produces 170hp and 350Nm. The diesel engine is shared with the Tata Harrier and Safari and the Jeep Compass.

The Hector Plus' rivals include the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and the Toyota Innova Hycross.
