Audi will launch the new A4 in the Indian market on September 8, 2016. The new Audi A4 has been on sale in international markets since mid-2015 and was first showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in February.
Here are some important facts about the upcoming Audi A4:
1 Lighter than predecessor
Despite being wider and longer, the new A4 is almost 95kg lighter than its predecessor, depending on the variant. The car is underpinned by the VW Group’s MLB platform that makes use of aluminium and steel which contribute to this reduction in weight. This gives it an advantage over rivals such as the BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-class, and the new Jaguar XE, in terms of benefits in fuel economy and lower running costs.
2. Features Audi's Virtual Cockpit
Audi will equip the new A4 with its Virtual Cockpit. It replaces the conventional instrument cluster with a massive 12.3-inch, high-definition screen which can be configured to display the navigation map, infotainment and car information, as well as the speedometer and tachometer. With this inclusion, the regular 6.5-inch, dash-mounted infotainment display can now be used for Audi’s updated MMI interface.
3. Will come with a 1.4-litre petrol initially
Audi will launch the A4 with a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that can produce 150hp of power and 250Nm of torque, and is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The carmaker claims that the new A4 can go from 0-100kph in 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 210kph. A 190hp 2.0-litre diesel unit mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will join the line-up later.
4. Packed with features
A long list of features is expected to be one of the defining aspects of the new A4. The A4 1.4 petrol will come with fewer frills than the rest of the range. However, top-spec cars slated to launch later will be loaded with equipment like Audi’s Matrix LED headlights, Virtual Cockpit, MMI infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, Bang & Olufsen sound system, wireless phone charging, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a sunroof and driving modes (Drive Select).
5. To be priced competitively
The new launches from Audi in India have been priced quite aggressively and we expect a sub-Rs 40 lakh starting price for the new A4.
