The compact sedan space in India will see two new entrants later this year. First up is the all-new Dzire sedan, which, as we've reported earlier, will go on sale this festive season. This will be followed by the launch of the new Honda Amaze that's expected to go on sale in the last few months of 2024.
- Both models will continue to be petrol-only
- CNG powertrains could be added at a later stage
Next-gen Amaze, Dzire: what all will be new?
Sources tell us that the next-gen Honda Amaze will be based on the same platform as the City and Elevate, but get a slightly shorter wheelbase. Styling will likely be inspired by bigger Honda sedans sold abroad, while the cabin is also expected to be thoroughly upgraded to keep up with competition. The next-gen Amaze is expected to be equipped with a larger, free-standing touchscreen borrowed from the Elevate, while other interior components will likely be shared with other Honda India cars.
Meanwhile, the new Dzire’s exterior design will be in line with the newly launched fourth-gen Swift. On the inside, the compact sedan will get a revamped, modern-looking cabin with a 9-inch, free-standing touchscreen, a first-in-segment sunroof, redesigned HVAC controls, and a new yet familiar dashboard. The Maruti sedan will offer six airbags as standard across the range. Expect the new Dzire to sit on the same Heartect platform and have similar dimensions as the outgoing car.
Next-gen Amaze, Dzire: powertrain details
The next-gen Amaze will likely carry over its 90hp, 110Nm, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that's mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT. It is yet unclear if Honda is exploring a CNG powertrain for the new Amaze.
The Maruti Dzire will get the Swift's 82hp, 112Nm, 1.2-litre Z series three-cylinder petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. Expect a fuel efficiency figure of around 24-25kpl, similar to its hatchback sibling. The next-gen Dzire will be offered with just a petrol engine at launch, with a CNG option likely to be added later.
Next-gen Amaze, Dzire: expected price
After a recent variant rejig, the Honda Amaze is now available in two trim levels – S and VX, priced from Rs 7.93 lakh-9.86 lakh. In comparison, the Maruti Dzire is priced between Rs 6.57 lakh-9.39 lakh.
