With its sharp and angular styling the new BMW Z4 is certainly an attention seeker and will get you more than just second glances. The cabin too carries on with the edgy styling while the seats are nicely rounded and contoured to perfectly support you on long touring drives. It is a strict two-seater, however, and luggage space with the boot folded away is quite limited too.
While we are yet to have a go in the ‘base’ Z4 sDrive20i version, we can talk of the spicier M40i. With 340hp on tap, the six cylinder engine pulls strongly from low down in the rev range and power delivery is nice and linear. Handling and steering are what you would expect from a car with the BMW badge – flooring the throttle will get the Z4’s tail squiggly. What does come as a surprise is ride comfort. It’s pliant and free of the firmness you might expect.
