The new BMW 5 Series is unlike any 5 Series before it. Now the long-wheelbase version, it replaces both the old 5 Series and 6 Series Gran Turismo, and has traded driver engagement for rear-seat comfort. It is the largest vehicle in its class, with class leading rear-cabin space and features the latest in BMW's comfort and luxury tech. It is now a more direct rival to the segment favourite, the Mercedes Benz E-class.

Following the success of the 3-series long wheelbase, BMW developed the eight-generation 5-series Long Wheelbase from the ground up, to cater to the chauffeur-driven Indian buyers. With this new 5-series, BMW endeavours to beat the Mercedes-Benz E-Class at its own game.
The talking point of this new 5-Series is its 3,105mm wheelbase, which makes it 130mm longer than the last-gen 5 Series’ wheelbase. Dimensionally, it is longer, wider and taller than its chief rival, the Mercedes E-Class. However, the design has lost some of the signature athleticism that defined its predecessors. While the large kidney grille and M Sport styling add some aggression, the narrow 225/55 R18 tires make the car appear underwhelming for its size.
The cabin is dominated by a curved digital display. Inspired by the 7 Series, the dashboard features BMW’s ‘Interaction Bar,’ crystal-finished controls, and vegan leather upholstery. The front seats are comfortable and equipped with ventilation and memory settings. The rear seats offer generous space, excellent cushioning, and a relaxed 31-degree backrest angle. However, the lack of reclining functionality and missing features like rear sunshades and seat adjustment controls make it feel a step behind the Mercedes E-Class in rear-seat luxury.
The BMW 5 Series LWB is well-equipped with powered, ventilated seats, memory settings, a wireless charger, a head-up display, and a premium 655W Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Convenience features include a powered boot with a 500L capacity and a space-saver spare. On the safety front it gets seven airbags, electronic aids, and Level 1 ADAS, though adaptive cruise control is missing.
Powered by a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, the 530Li delivers 258hp and 400Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. It’s smooth, refined, and responsive, paired well with the excellent 8-speed automatic gearbox. However, the car leans heavily towards comfort, therefore driving enthusiasts will miss the trademark sharp handling and agility BMW sedans are known for. The 5-series shines when it comes to bump absorption as well as its pillowy soft ride quality, delivering a proper luxury car experience.
With a sole petrol offering, the BMW 5-Series LWB, at ₹72.90 lakh (ex-showroom)is a luxurious, spacious, and comfortable luxury sedan. While it is not as engaging to drive as its predecessor, and it doesn’t pamper its rear occupants with creature comforts like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, however this BMW 5-series undercuts its rival by a substantial Rs 5.6 lakh. And that makes it a compelling choice.
The BMW 5 Series offers a variety of color options. BMW 5 Series is available in a range of 11 colors. The colors offered in BMW 5 Series are Carbon Black, Phytonic Blue metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Sparkling Cooper Grey, Fire Red Metallic, M Brooklyn Grey Metallic, M Isle of Man Green Metallic, M Marina Bay Blue Metallic, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic and M Carbon Black Metallic.
