2023 is just around the corner and there are plenty of cars and SUVs lined up for launch. In the run-up to the new year, we take a look at five of the most popular videos on the Autocar India YouTube channel in 2022. A quick glance shows us that SUVs still occupy a big chunk of our audience’s preferences, but it is electric vehicles that take the cake of the most viewed video on the channel.

    5. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder review - 1.115 million views

The Toyota Hyryder made quite a lot of buzz when it was first announced. Toyota sells its strong hybrid technology in India with the Camry and Vellfire, but it’s the first time the brand has leveraged the technology in a more mass-market car. The Hyryder, like its Maruti Suzuki derivative, the Grand Vitara, has a mild-hybrid version as well. Both are based on Maruti Suzuki’s Global C platform and get an optional AWD system too. Watch our review to see how it fares.

    4. Toyota Innova Hycross review - 1.206 million views

Toyota’s most successful product in India is arguably the Innova. It now has moved on from its previous ethos of a rear-wheel drive, body-on-frame chassis configuration to a front-wheel drive, monocoque chassis configuration. In the process, the new Innova – now called the Innova Hycross – has ditched the diesel powertrain entirely in favour of a strong-hybrid powertrain. The Innova Hycross is more luxurious, spacious, feature-packed and modern but feels no less reassuring and sure-footed at high speeds. Watch our comprehensive review here.

    3. Mahindra Scorpio N review - 1.211 million views

Twenty years after the first Scorpio was introduced, Mahindra launched the brand-new Scorpio N. The new body-on-frame SUV is bigger, plusher, more advanced and feature-packed than the original Scorpio it replaces, which is still being sold as the Scorpio Classic. What sets the Scorpio N apart is that it has no direct rivals as of now, since there is no other body-on-frame, 4x4 SUV in this price bracket. In this video, we test the automatic gearbox-equipped versions of its petrol and diesel engines.

    2. Kia Carens review - 1.239 million views

The Kia Carens is a three-row derivative of the Seltos but it is much larger, measuring 225mm longer, 80mm taller and has a 160mm longer wheelbase. In true Kia fashion, there is a plethora of variants on offer with the choice of three engines, three gearboxes and two seating configurations. Kia impressed us with the seating and the amount of space for all three rows as three six-footers can sit behind each other comfortably. Watch the full review here.

    1. Kia EV6 review - 2.516 million

The other Kia on this list is the only electric car the South Korean brand offers, and it is also the one that fetched us the most views – a staggering 2.5 million. Kia’s EV6 sits on the E-GMP platform, much like the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The all-wheel-drive version of the EV6 really impressed us with the way it takes off the line and handles corners. It has an agility that is not expected, especially considering the mass of the EV6 when changing directions. Watch our track review of the EV6 GT Line here
