    BYD eMax 7 vs e6: what's changed

BYD recently launched the eMax 7 electric MPV in India as a replacement to the e6, which marked the brand’s entry into the country back in 2021. The eMax 7 is essentially the e6’s facelift, but with a new name. Over the e6, the eMax 7 gets a range of changes including visual updates, new features as well as new powertrain options. Here’s what’s all new on the eMax 7 over the e6.

BYD eMax 7 vs e6 design

The BYD eMax 7 gets redesigned, slimmer headlamps, sportier bumpers along with new alloy wheels. The blue BYD emblem is replaced with the newer logo, while the front grille is also new. The MPV gets larger, more modern looking wraparound tail lamps that are connected together with a bar. The dual-tone treatment seen on the bumpers and sides of the e6 is now not seen on the eMax 7.

BYD eMax 7 vs e6 interior, features

As opposed to the all-black interior on the e6, the eMax 7 gets a black-and-brown dual-tone theme. It gets a new steering wheel as well as a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen replacing the 10.1-inch unit seen on the outgoing model. The centre console is also slightly revised with a new drive selector.

The biggest change, however, is the seating layout. The e6 offered with a two-row 5-seat setup as standard, while the eMax 7 gets a choice between a 6-seat layout with captain seats in the middle row, or 7-seat configuration. Thanks to the flat-fold third row of seats, the eMax 7 offers the same 580-litre boot space as the e6.

The e6 was pretty bare bones as far as equipment is concerned, however, the eMax 7 is fairly well equipped. Over the e6, it adds a fixed panoramic glass roof, wireless chargers, smartphone connectivity, Level 2 ADAS tech, powered and ventilated front seats, frameless front wipers, and a 360-degree camera.

BYD eMax 7 vs e6 powertrain, battery, range

Powering the eMax 7 is a front-mounted single electric motor that produces 161hp in the lower variant (Premium) and 201hp in the higher one (Superior). Peak torque remains the same at 310Nm. In comparison, the e6’s electric motor put out just 95hp and 180Nm torque.

The Premium gets a 55.4kWh battery pack offering a 420km range as per the NEDC cycle, while Superior’s 71.8kWh unit offers a 530km range. The e6 was offered with a sole 71.7kWh battery pack that returned a WLTC tested range of up to 415km.

BYD eMax 7 vs e6 price

The BYD eMax 7 is priced from Rs 26.9 lakh onwards, going up to Rs 29.9 lakh, whereas the e6 was available in a single variant that cost Rs 29.15 lakh. While the price hasn’t increased significantly, the eMax 7 packs tons of new features, an extra row of seats, as well as more power and torque over its predecessor.
