The next-gen KTM 390 Duke has been under development for a long time and we’ve seen multiple spy pictures of the bike, both abroad and in India. The recent test mules looked almost production ready, suggesting that a launch is on the anvil.

However, during our recent interaction with Stefan Pierer, the CEO of KTM AG, there were indications that the new-gen 390 Duke will be launched globally by mid-2023. This will be a global launch and the bike will be manufactured at the Bajaj factory in Chakan, as is the case with the current generation of the 390 Duke.

  1. 2023 KTM 390 Duke to get fresh styling

  2. Will also get new wheels and brakes

  3. Bump in displacement expected

2023 KTM 390 Duke: Details

The new-generation KTM 390 Duke features a number of changes over the outgoing model. The test mules suggest a more aggressive design, on the lines of the 1290 Super Duke, evident in the tank extensions. There are rumours that the engine displacement may rise to 399cc and there could be a bump in peak power and torque. All the sightings of the test mules have revealed new engine covers and routing for the exhaust system, suggesting that a comprehensive update to the existing single-cylinder mill is in order. The bike is also expected to get a twin-fan radiator setup, similar to the 390 Adventure, for efficient heat management.

Besides the engine, the test mules have also revealed a new swingarm, new suspension set-up and wheels and brakes that seem to be taken from the RC 390’s parts bin. The suspension, in particular, is interesting, as the monoshock has an offset positioning. Also, judging from the way the KTM RC 390 tackles our bad roads, expect the 2023 390 Duke to ride equally well if not better.

As for features, expect KTM to equip the new 390 Duke quite well, with traction control, cornering ABS and a quickshifter in the mix.
