Yamaha scooters now get combined brakes

The safety feature comes at a nominal cost of Rs 400-600, based on the model. The updated range also introduces a new maintenance-free battery.

2018 has not been a good year for Yamaha India’s scooter sales. While the company’s motorcycle sales numbers climbed last year – largely thanks to the success of the new Yamaha YZR-R15 V3.0 – scooter sales dropped from 4.12 lakh units in 2017 to 3.64 lakh units in 2018.

The company has now announced that it has updated its entire range of scooters with a combined braking system, termed as UBS (Unified Braking System) by the brand. This comes short of the April 1, 2019 deadline that requires all two-wheelers below 125cc to have CBS while all above should feature ABS.

Yamaha’s current scooter range consists of five models – the Fascino, Cygnus Alpha, Cygnus Ray Z, Cygnus Ray ZR and Cygnus Ray ZR Street rally. All five scooters share the same 112cc engine; and the company’s absence in the 125cc segment has been conspicuous for some time now.

The addition of CBS comes at a nominal price increase of Rs 600 across the range for models with a disc brake and Rs 400 for drum brake equipped versions. The non-CBS models will no longer be on sale.

The Yamaha Fascino also gets a new colour named Season Green. In addition to this, the entire Yamaha scooter range has been updated with a new, maintenance-free battery. Check the table below for the new prices:
