7,757 Yamaha FZ FI, FZ-S FI units recalled

Yamaha has recalled 7,757 units of Yamaha FZ FI, FZ-S FI manufactured from October 2019. This voluntary recall is being undertaken to address an issue related to “non-fitment of rear-side reflector.”

The Japanese brand has said that the reflector will be fitted in the affected motorcycles free of cost, at any of the Yamaha authorised dealers; the owners will be contacted individually. This recall is a part of the company’s compliance to safety norms and not in connection with any matter related to the vehicle’s performance.

The BS6 FZ and FZ-S V3.0 were launched in November 2019. These bikes are powered by a 149cc, single-cylinder engine, just like on the outgoing model. However, Yamaha has increased the compression ratio from 9.5:1 to 9.6:1; and interestingly, the updated engine produces lower power but makes more torque than the unit it being replaced. Peak power and torque stand at 12.4hp at 7,250rpm and 13.6Nm at 5,500rpm, respectively, in comparison to 13.2hp at 8,000rpm and 12.8Nm of torque at 6,000rpm as seen the previous model. As you can see, peak torque also comes in at a lower point in the rev range.

The rest of the bike remains largely unchanged, and features like the front and rear disc brake with single-channel ABS and instrument cluster have been carried over from the outgoing FZ.
