Mahindra is all-set to give the popular Thar its first makeover since its launch in 2010. The Thar has been a popular choice for the off-road enthusiast community across the country. Seen here are the first spy-pics captured by our reader Vijay Tiwari, that give us a detailed glimpse at the updated Thar.
On the outside, the Thar is expected to get an all-new front-bumper, which will now be a mix of plastic and metal. On the sides, the Thar will get bigger foot-rests and, although not seen on the test-mule, the top-spec CRDe variant will get fender extensions as standard. The biggest differentiator on the updated Thar, when viewed from the sides, is that the canopy is now tilted from the back.
However, it is on the inside that the Thar gets a lot of changes compared to the earlier model. The dash is all-new and is now dual tone. The AC vents are now round with prominent silver finish. The instrument cluster is also all-new, with three separate chrome-ringed units. The steering wheel, HVAC controls and the handbrake lever are all from the Bolero. The seats are also new, and look wider than before. The Thar also gets a beige centre console housing that covers the hand brake, gear lever and the transfer case. There are two cup holders too.
Mechanically, there are no updates expected on the Thar. This means, the CRDe and the Di engines are expected to continue unchanged. Our sources tell us that Mahindra will launch the updated Thar in June just in time for the off-road season.
Update : Mahindra Thar facelift launched at Rs 8.03 lakh
