Honda has revealed the new Honda Civic hatchback prior to the car’s launch in the international markets. Sharing much of its styling with the sedan and coupé already on sale in North America, the hatchback is the third body style of the Civic to go on sale in international markets with the first markets set to receive the car in September.
Prior to its reveal ,the undisguised Civic hatchback was spotted being loaded on to a transporter in UK where the model will be built at Honda’s Swindon plant prior to being exported to other markets. Swindon is also likely to produce a large number of the future Civic Tourer and Type R models, although the reveal of these versions is still some way off.
The car revealed in US-spec is exclusively powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor in varying states of tune while the model for other markets could get the option of a 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre petrol motors as well.
The hatchback is set to launch in international markets later this year with Honda UK boss Philip Crossman also hinting that a hybrid version will be offered. The hatchback is also expected to form the next Civic Type-R towards the end of its production life-cycle.
The Civic hatchback will rival the likes of the Hyundai i30 – an all-new model set to debut in Paris in September – in international markets.
For India, Honda is considering relaunching the Civic brand close to 2019, though for India, we are only likely to get the car in its sedan body style.
