German luxury carmaker BMW is set to launch its refreshed X1 SUV on March 5, 2020. The BMW X1 facelift will come with a BS6-compliant 192hp, 2.0-litre petrol engine and a BS6-compliant 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine.
In terms of exterior design, the X1 sports plenty of changes. There’s a larger version of BMW’s signature kidney grille, restyled front and rear bumpers, and new alloy wheel designs. While the headlight mounts are the same as before, the headlight units get a new design – double-barrel LEDs borrowed from newer BMWs. Range-topping X1 M Sport variants also get a more aggressive chin design, with larger disc brakes and new colour options.
Considering interior changes are limited to new upholstery and better quality of materials, the cabin will feel familiar. Even equipment levels will be carried forward, with only top-spec variants expected to see major additions, like a panoramic sunroof and a 10.25-inch infotainment system.
The engines in question are the current model’s 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged units, which will be upgraded to meet the more stringent norms. In BS4 form, the petrol engine makes 192hp and 280Nm of peak torque, while the diesel is tuned to produce 190hp and 400Nm of torque. Both units will come paired with an 8-speed torque converter automatic, but, like on the current model, only the diesel will get the option of all-wheel-drive.
As the current BMW X1 petrol is priced at Rs 38.30 lakh* and the diesels retail between Rs 39.30-45.70 lakh*, we expect the facelifted range to be priced between Rs 39-46 lakh. In the Indian market, the BMW X1 rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40 and the Mini Countryman.
*Prices ex-showroom, pan-India
