Chevrolet dealers have confirmed the recall of the Beat hatchback in India. However, this recall exercise is only for the petrol variant of the Beat, to rectify an issue related to the fuel pipe. The affected cars are the units manufactured before July 2010, the company has confirmed.
The fuel pipe problem has arisen due to the accumulation of electrostatic discharge inside the non-conductive fuel pipeline. Chevrolet has asked dealerships to contact the affected customers, and fix an appointment to inspect their cars. If the problem is detected, the repairs, which will take up to a couple of hours, will be taken care of free of cost. Chevrolet is also contacting affected customers via letters.
The year 2014 has seen General Motors being plagued by a number of recalls globally. Although most of the recalled cars were in the United States, India too has had its share. Chevrolet previously recalled the Enjoy MPV to address issues arising from the 1.3-litre diesel engine.
