The Citroen Basalt will soon join the growing trend of all-black variants. Citroen has just dropped a teaser for the Basalt Dark Edition, hinting at a few dark-themed exterior and interior cosmetic updates. The launch can be expected in the coming days.

  1. Basalt Dark Edition to get dark chrome exterior elements
  2. Interior gets new black upholstery
  3. Expected to remain mechanically unchanged

Citroen Basalt Dark Edition: what’s new?

All-black exterior and interior treatment

As with other all-black edition models, the Basalt can be expected in a new black exterior shade, adding to the five existing colour options: Steel Grey, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, Polar White, and Garnet Red. The latter two also come with a contrasting black roof for a dual-tone finish.

The teaser video also hints at a dark chrome finish for the alloy wheels and badges. Additionally, the front and rear skid plates, which are finished in silver on the regular model, could also be blacked out. A brief glimpse of the interior hints at new black upholstery. The regular Basalt gets light beige upholstery and a dual-tone black/beige finish for the dashboard.

Citroen Basalt Dark Edition engine options

Expected to be based on top-spec trim

Most black edition variants are usually offered on the top-spec trim, and the same can be expected with the Basalt. As for engine options, the Basalt gets an 82hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol or a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol; only the latter gets an automatic gearbox option. It remains to be seen which powertrain options the Basalt Dark Edition gets.

Growing popularity of Dark Edition models

The list of dark edition SUVs seems to be constantly growing. Models like the Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Tata Harrier and Safari, Jeep Compass and Mahindra Scorpio N are all offered with Dark Edition variants, with the Mahindra XUV700 Ebony Edition being the most recent addition. And it’s not just limited to SUVs because the Toyota Hilux and MG Comet also received Dark Editions variants recently. The Basalt’s arch rival, the Tata Curvv, is also expected to get a Dark Edition soon.
