Honda has launched the updated Brio in the Indian market. The much-needed facelift sees the Brio get sportier looks in line with the updated Amaze along with a big step up for the cabin as well. The changes to the cabin include an all-new dashboard replacing the older Spartan unit along with new fabrics and added equipment. The car is now only available in three trims – E, S, VX – as against the previous five – E, EX, S, V, VX.

Honda Brio engines

Honda has not altered any of the Brio’s mechanicals. The car carries forward as a petrol-only offering powered by the 88hp, 1.2-litre i-VTEC motor paired to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard with the top VX trim, additionally getting the option of an automatic gearbox. Unlike speculation, the car carries forward using the old five-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Honda Brio fuel efficiency

As per data provided by Honda, the updated Brio is rated to return 18.5kpl and 16.5kpl for the manual and automatic versions respectively.

Honda Brio equipment

Honda has added a new 2DIN audio system to the updated Brio which now gets Bluetooth connectivity and hands-free telephony in addition to USB and aux connectivity. Also provided on the updated cars are safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and seatbelt pretensioners. The Brio though, misses out on climate control in addition to a touchscreen infotainment system.

Honda Brio price and rivals

Despite the slow sales, Honda has priced the facelifted Brio by up to Rs 25,000 higher than the car it replaces. Prices for the updated Brio start at Rs 4.69 lakh for the base E trim and going up to Rs 6.82 lakh for the top VX automatic (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). The pricing puts in at the heart of the segment occupied by rivals such as the Ford Figo, Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10.
