Update: Hyundai Creta launched in India at Rs 8.59 lakh

The Hyundai Creta SUV is officially set to hit Indian showrooms on July 21. The new SUV will be available in six trim levels, with three engine options and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. Dealers are already accepting bookings for the upcoming SUV with amounts varying between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000. Hyundai has also revealed that pre-bookings for the Creta have already crossed the 10,000-unit mark.

Here's a look at what you can expect from the upcoming Hyundai SUV:

Stylistically, the Creta follows Hyundai’s fluidic design language but with a more upright and rugged SUV stance. The Creta gets a fairly large bonnet to give it a more full-sized look and a robust front bumper and upright front grille. The rear gets a set of simple yet attractive tail-lamps while the lower portion of the car has been styled to look wider than the top to give it a planted look.

Inside, the Creta is expected to offer ample space with its 2590mm wheelbase. The dashboard is expected to share a few bits and pieces with other Hyundai models.

The Creta will be available in six variants – Base, S, S+, SX, SX+ and SX(O). The Base variant will get standard features like rear AC vents, remote locking, a 12V power outlet, a four-speaker audio system and ABS. The top SX(O) variant will get additional features like six airbags, leather upholstery, keyless entry and go, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Under the bonnet, the Creta will draw power from three engine options – a 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre diesels from the Verna. A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard across all variants, with only the SX+ variant also getting the option of a six-speed automatic.

The 1.6 petrol will be available in the Base, S and SX+ trims while the 1.4 diesel will be available on the Base, S and S+ variants. The 1.6-diesel, on the other hand, will be offered on the SX, SX+ and SX(O) variants.

The Creta will go up against the likes of the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Maruti S-Cross. Hyundai has prepared the SUV to offer a premium cabin to buyers with each variant loaded with features; a choice of a diesel automatic for trouble-free city driving will only add to its appeal. Prices for the new Hyundai Creta are expected to start around the Rs 9 lakh-mark (ex-showroom).
