Jeep has released a first set of images of the updated Renegade SUV at the Turin Motor Show 2018 in Italy. The Renegade facelift, as reported by us earlier gets subtle tweaks, inside out.
As seen from the first set of images released by the manufacturer, the Jeep Renegade gets a redesigned front bumper that extends a bit lower than its predecessor. The Renegade also gets two additional fog lamps positioned at the lower-end of the bumper, with dedicated clear-lens turn indicators above them. The headlights get LED treatment and have daytime running lights that are similar in design to the ones seen on the new Wrangler. At the back, the Renegade’s tail-lights get slightly reprofiled, making them look fresher than the outgoing model.
Inside, a larger infotainment screen takes the place of the current 6.5in unit, absorbing the buttons and controls previously surrounding it. The new unit is still housed in the shaped surround so takes up no more space than the complete previous unit.
For the European market, the Renegade facelift is likely to come with a new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine that’s good for 120hp. There will also be a new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol motor that will come in two states of tune – 150hp and 180hp.
Jeep is expected to bring the updated Renegade to India in the future. Under the hood, the India-bound SUV is likely to come with a 140hp, 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with full-time four-wheel drive as optional and two-wheel drive as standard.
Key rivals to the Renegade include the Hyundai Creta, Renault’s Captur and the upcoming Nissan Kicks. Jeep is already in talks with its Indian supplier base to provide high amount of local content in the Renegade, which will help the company price the SUV competitively.
Apart from the Renegade, Jeep is also readying two more SUV launches for India.
