next gen audi a6 sedan reveal details design engines

Audi will reveal the next-generation ICE-powered A6 on March 4. The executive sedan was previously supposed to sport the A7 moniker under Audi’s 2023 model nomenclature. But now that Audi has reversed course on that naming strategy, the ICE-powered A6 will retain its nameplate as it heads into its sixth generation.

  1. The new A6’s design is expected to be in line with the latest A5 and Q5
  2. India may only get turbo-petrol variants when the model comes here

The A6 sedan’s EV counterpart, the A6 e-tron, is already on sale in some international markets and is expected to launch in India later this year. However, it’s worth noting that while both Audi models carry the A6 branding, they’re built on entirely different platforms. The A6 e-tron utilises Volkswagen’s PPE skateboard, whereas the ICE-powered sedan will leverage the company’s PPC platform.

Next-gen Audi A6: design changes

The 6th-gen A6 will likely feature Audi’s latest design language. Its styling will likely be brought in line with the third-gen Audi Q5 and A5, which were revealed last year. The front end may feature sleek headlights imbued with Audi’s Matrix LEDs, along with large vertical air intakes on the bumper and the brand’s signature hexagonal grille. On the rear, a light bar running across the car’s width and a redesigned bumper can be anticipated.

Next-gen Audi A6: engine options

The ICE-powered 6th-gen A6 will be available with petrol and diesel engine options, but India may not get the latter. The TFSI variants will likely sport a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine, whereas the TDI variants could have a 2.0L turbo-diesel unit. Both powerplants will be accompanied by a 48V mild-hybrid setup and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Some markets may also receive a spicier S6 variant with a 3.0L turbo-petrol V6.

The current-gen A6 came to India in 2019, and its closest competitors, the Mercedes-Benz E Class and BMW 5 Series, have received generational upgrades since then. Therefore, the Audi sedan is due for a brand-new iteration, and only time will tell how long it’ll take for the next-gen Audi A6 to reach Indian shores after its global debut.
