The Porsche Macan could have a successor by the end of the decade. The German brand has confirmed it has begun work on a new combustion-engine SUV, reports our sister publication Autocar UK. This development adds weight to our report that a new Porsche Macan petrol was under consideration amid the EV sales slump experienced by the company in 2024.

New Porsche Macan petrol replacement details
First drawings and concepts of the new SUV are being developed

Rather than confirming a new internal combustion-engine Macan, Porsche stated in its annual financial results that it is “currently evaluating an independent model line in the SUV segment with combustion and hybrid powertrains”. The brand added that the new SUV, which could be launched before 2030, would have “a new design” and “benefit from synergies”. This will help the company offer greater flexibility in its future line-up.
Speaking at Porsche’s annual media conference, company boss Oliver Blume said that the new model line would be “clearly different” from the electric-only Macan. While Blume wouldn’t give any details on the size or how it would be positioned with reference to the existing Macan Electric or Cayenne, he did say, “The first drawings and concepts are currently being developed, and they have been very well received. This is something that will cost us money [to develop], but for the future, it gives us more flexibility.”
This new model could effectively serve as a replacement for the current petrol-powered Macan, which is expected to go out of production in 2026.
Porsche seven-seat SUV in the works
New SUV codenamed K1 could get ICE and electric powertrains

Porsche is also working on a new electric SUV, currently known as the K1, which will offer seven seats and sit above the Cayenne. While that was due to be electric-only, it is possible Porsche could add closely related combustion versions. Although Blume's comment about the new ICE and hybrid SUV not having moved past the design stage suggests this would be a distinct model. The new seven-seat SUV would likely use the Porsche- and Audi-developed Premium Performance Combustion (PPC) platform, which is used by the India-bound, new-gen Q5.
