The Tata Altroz facelift has been spied testing for a while now, and this time, some design details can be observed. The mid-cycle refresh for the Altroz is expected to feature relatively minor design changes on the outside and inside.

    1. Tata Altroz facelift sports new bumper and lighting
    2. Likely to get more features across variants and mildly updated cabin
    3. Expected to remain mechanically unchanged

The Altroz test mule spied wears a significant amount of camouflage, hiding most details. However, what can be gleaned is the new front bumper, which features a vertical crease below the fog light units. Another design detail that can be identified is the use of LED elements in the tail-lights and indicators.

    Tata Altroz facelift interior changes

10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment seen in spy images

While the latest Altroz spy shots show a large infotainment screen – likely to be the 10.25-inch unit seen on the top-spec model and the Altroz Racer – no other details of the interior can be seen in these latest spy images. Tata will likely provide new upholstery and door trim with the refreshed Altroz, along with democratising certain premium features.

    Sunroof unlikely for Altroz facelift

The larger infotainment screen could be seen on lower variants, and the ventilated front seats – a segment-first only available with the Racer – could also be offered on the standard top-spec model. Another detail that can be observed is that a sunroof is not expected to be on offer with the Altroz facelift.

Same petrol, turbo-petrol, CNG and diesel engines expected

The Altroz is on sale with an 88hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine that has 5-speed manual and 6-speed dual-clutch auto options. A 73.5hp factory-fit CNG version and a 90hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine option are also available. The CNG and diesel-powered Altroz come with a 5-speed manual only. Meanwhile, the Altroz Racer shares its 120hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and 6-speed manual transmission with the Tata Nexon. All five powertrain options are expected to be offered with the Altroz facelift.

    Tata Altroz performance in India

After the launch of the performance-focused Altroz Racer, and the fact that an automatic version was on the cards, the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno rival hasn’t been in the news much, other than featuring on the Tata discounts lists. With these new spy shots surfacing, it seems like Tata Motors is moving ahead with the mid-cycle refresh for the hatchback launched in January 2020. It has received variant and feature updates since, along with the addition of a more powerful turbo-petrol engine, but no design changes.

In fact, Tata’s premium hatchback isn’t setting the sales charts on fire, with rivals like the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and the Toyota Glanza outselling it. And that’s despite the Altroz being the only model in the premium hatchback segment to offer a diesel engine option. The Altroz is currently priced between Rs 6.65 lakh and Rs 11.30 lakh, ex-showroom, India.

Upright back seats and high NVH level should be resolved in such a premium car. Also expecting more refined engine and necessary design change in dust catching behavior.
