Ola car design patent

Ola Electric has temporarily paused its electric car launch plans as it wants to focus on expanding its e-scooter business at the moment, Reuters reported. Sources confirm that Bhavish Aggarwal, founder of the SoftBank-backed company, has put the initiative on hold for at least two years. Reuters could not obtain a response from the company.

The company had announced its plan for an electric sports car in August 2022, and even made claims of over 500km range, 0-100kph in four seconds and a drag co-efficienct of 0.21cd. Aggarwal then stated that it would launch within two years and even reiterated these plans in a September 2023 Forbes interview, as per Reuters.

Ola Electric car: what else is known?

We got our first proper look at the Ola electric car from a patent image that surfaced online about a year ago. It revealed a sleek sports car bodystyle, which differed significantly from earlier teasers that suggested multiple body styles with varying looks. A source said that Ola had held preliminary talks with several auto component suppliers and had even created a model designed on the lines of a BMW luxury sedan at its UK studio.

According to Reuters, when the homegrown EV brand revives its car project, it will focus on an affordable mass-market vehicle, moving away from its plans of launching a premium sports car previewed last year.

Ola motorcycle project: latest update

Ola recently shared an image on social media showcasing a battery pack that looked bigger than the ones found on most Indian e-scooters, and wrapped by a tubular frame. The image also revealed a front sprocket and chain final drive, similar to the setups on the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 and Matter Aera electric bikes in India. While there is no official update, Ola's first e-bike could potentially debut globally as early as next month.
